    I've never heard nor read any of the older versions apply this clause to the rule of wish giving until Robbin Williams is hired by Disney to do so

    I always thought of it as the genie being extremely powerful and doing you a favour cuz he's a cool guy. It is like if your friend told you he owed you a favour, that doesn't mean your favour can be asking for 3 more favours. They will just say "nah, fuck off".

    You're ultimately still relying on the good will of the wish/favour granter.

    He shows servitude towards you. You had the power (as written in the original story) of placing him back in the bottle and he knew this. Otherwise he would have murdered you on his release.

    Robin Williams was a cartoon voice for a Disney'esque version of original stories. Like the Grimm Brother tales. The original ones are almost R rated.

    If he can grant your wish then he can probably fuck you over before you can rebottle him too, he's likely just nice enough of a guy to grant you 3 wishes for freeing him.
