There are reports of 40 year olds getting conscription papers (even in WW1 and 2 the U.K. never conscripted people over 35) and even better reports of soldiers from the fake 'republics' in the Donbas trying to retreat back into russia and being refused entry by border guards!
And here's a lovely clip of Ukrainian troops at the russian border behind Kharkiv. They have pushed the orcs back to their own country, while the orcs in the Donbas are trying to flee but aren't allowed to.

What happened is that the Russians needed meat for their war, so they "mobilised" the male population of the Donbass. The Donbass guys were all conscripted, most of them don't want to fight, but the Russian are using them as cannon fodder for all the hard fighting that goes on, since losses of Donbass troops don't appear in Russian army losses statistics and won't upset civilians back home.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

I dunno, probably not though. It'd be a massive net negative for them to try and rehabilitate the country; it'd tank their own economy even without considering complicating relations with other neighbours. -

look into maneuvre warfare; the goal there was to pin down Western forces so that they couldn't reinforce the theatres in the East (ie. Mariupol and the Donbass Cauldron). Now that both nooses are effectively closed it doesn't matter what the Western forces do. -

outside of protecting the Donbass, the goal is to push back against NATO - trying to take the whole Ukraine would weaken their strategic position, no matter how little resistance they faced -

This is a continuation of the logic we used to predict that the war wouldn't happen.
Manoeuver warfare involves encirclement, distraction and deception. It has never involved opening and then abandoning an entire front as a feint.
