Fun publicity stunt from Elon, but this is one of those things where trying and failing is liable to actually embolden enemies of free speech. If the richest man in the world couldn't even strip these people of power then they have nothing left to fear. Demonstrating that to them is not going to have happy results for the thing you're ostensibly worried about protecting. It's not really a hostile takeover yet, although who can doubt the board is hostile, it's just an offer to go private.
Shitlibs really think they own everything, and when it comes to large, established organisations, they usually do. When Musk bought 9.1% and was offered a place on the board they were rude to him, and even made his board place contingent on a "background check", like a kid applying for their first job. Two references please Elon. Elon has come back and noted the Twitter board is incompetent, which they are. But the point is that the management of twitter think that they own the company and that the company exists to propagandise, to censor, to pursue various woke agendas.
But the reality is that Twitter belongs to the shareholders, and as a public company exists to make a profit. The management are paid to maximise shareholder value. If they turn down Elon's offer they need to explain to the shareholders, some of whom will sue management for their personal assets for fiduciary misconduct.
Twitter is a bloated wreck too. For reference Twitter has 6,000 employees who do basically nothing but fight with the users, while Space X has 10,000 employees and is preparing to go to Mars. If half the Twitter employees quit and take their isolation pods and service animals with them, then Twitter still has about 2,000 employees too many. You need someone to do accounting, arrange advertising, and watch the server fans spin.
Elon bid $54.20, Twitter stonk closed at about $45. The market isn't taking Elon's offer seriously or something. Now that Twitter is in play, I'd class the $45 price as being a complete steal. The market is basically a bunch of dumb old money jedis and shitlibs. Twitter will be sold, to someone, and the price will go to $54.20 or above. I bought shares when the market opened today, lost money based on the current price but I'm not worried.

It's a publicly traded company, it belongs to the shareholders. They have to answer to their shareholders and to the market in general, no they can't do anything they like. -
