Something I wish to acquire...though I wont be using it for artistic airbrushing, rather general airbrushing of 3d printed parts and plastic cases/housings.

They guy I bought it from had bought it to decorate athletic shoes...he was surprisingly white...so he threw in a bunch of extra paints that he said were $7 a pop, about 10 of em...problem is they are all marked for "leather"...not sure if that means I can't use them on plastic...guess we'll see.

you're supposed to flush them with a little bit of thinner after each use, so once you're done (or when you change colours) you empty the tank and put a little thinner in it, then spray until no more colour comes out.

if you forget or leave it too long and paint dries in there, you've got to take the whole spray nozzle apart and use thinner/scrape it, and they can be real fucking tricky to put back together properly (trigger can be calibrated and adjusted, you can dial in air-flow and it's easy to bend/dull the spike).

I ended up getting one of these https://www.sparmaxair.com/airbrush-0-4-1/flyer-sr for small hobby use; it's not as customisable but a lot less can go wrong

depends on the kind of paint you use, acrylic or enamel (it'll usually be acrylic), it'll just be sold as acrylic/enamel paint thinner. I can go see what brand I have if you like but I bought it from a hobby store so it's probably way more expensive than the same bunnings equivalent

Thanks I'll just look up acrylic thinners for airbrushes and see what the general recommendations are.

yeah the guy I bought it from told me that either would work, but it's best to match the thinner type for cleaning the brush - if you're actually using it to thin the paint you probably won't see much difference

its a type of solvent.

thinning is just the act of diluting whatever it is your diluting with an appropiate solvent.

the only thing that matter is the cleanliness and purity of your solvent. cheap paint thinners are stored and sold in big tin coated cans. these cans were thrown and slammed when theyre transported and so might contain bits and pieces of metal/iron/sands/containminants in them that clog your brush holes.

thats the only real difference between premium thinner and industrial thinner.
