2022-01-16 at 5:39 AM UTCnot to mention the ROI of a $50k missile if you can kill a $10b boat with it
-
2022-01-16 at 5:43 AM UTCYou can't project power without owning the sky

Williams intercepts in the 3rd, next play Touchdown
They even gave Dallas in what clearly a BS penalty flag against the niners of false start, contact
I'm sorry wrong kind of conflict -

2022-01-17 at 1:47 PM UTCWhat does ROI? I understand how you're using it, but I never heard the term
I remember reading in 1984 they had these things called Floating Fortresses which essentially was an unsinkable ship, that more or less functioned like an oil rig/man made island but essentially lines of them made up fronts in their modern wars and due to their unsinkability functioned a lot like the trenches did in WWI causing a near permanent stale mate.
I know this is ignorant to say, but I fully believed that the modern aircraft carriers, with nuclear subs that swim around them as a permeter, and the ability to hurl fighter jets into the air, AND is capable of locomotion to other places of the ocean, was essentially that floating fortress -

in terms of modern warfare the focus tends to be on offence, denial and standoff (being able to outrange the enemy) capability rather than defence - that is to say you don't typically build things that can absorb an attack, you use your weapons' range to control where the enemy can deploy and destroy their offensive capability before they can hit you back.
as an example, like I was talking about above, the Zircon is a newish hypersonic missile that is designed to obliterate surface ships. it was developed specifically because there's no current means to intercept it, so expensive ships like carriers cannot be moved anywhere near where one could be - a single missile costing less than $100k could feasibly sink a $10b ship. the only way to defend against them is to destroy them first, possibly with another long-range missile or airstrike, but by denying the ability to deploy a carrier or missile ship anywhere near the (possible!) missile battery it becomes very difficult.
even at the infantry level it's all about controlling movement, making the enemy vulnerable then killing them - armor helps a little with survivability but AP ammo is abundant and even if you don't have access to it, you can make your own with an ammo press, a torch and some steel carpentry nails. ever since automatic weapons started hitting the battlefield in WWII (though techniques have been refined, largely by the US), fire team tactics basically use automatic fire to force the enemy to move into cover or unsafe positions so that marksmen can pick them off. I think the statistic was that for each combatant killed in Afghanistan the marines expended around 3000 rounds. -

the first thing that's going to happen in a peer-military exchange is the satellites are coming down, then C4ISR is getting punched in the neck, then infrastructure and supply lines.
your only thinking half of the spectrum of warfare. eversince globalization war between peers will not be just about military hardwares going off in both directions, but it will also involve global finance, economy, trade, information, PR and diplomatic thug war on UNGA. it will be an unlimited (unrestricted) warfare and every sector and every aspect of everyones lives will be involved.
the next world war among peers will involve more civilians in active combat missions than military personels as combatants. in unlimited warfare, only the old and infirm and retards are non combatants.
lube up soldiers. -

in the near future, missiles will be launched from the satelites to intercpet hypersonics on their way up when theyre subsonic.
and they are going to be AI guided.
print this out, tattoo it on your chest, frame it and hang it on the wall. for it shall come to pass. -

not practical and not likely to be anytime soon.
weapons are prohibitively expensive to get into space and satellites are extremely vulnerable. nevermind that we're not talking about ballistic missiles here; things like the ZIRCON and KINZAHL have a ~2000km range and boost almost all the way

not really. they could cost about as much as a weather satelite. and no, satelites are extremely hard to locate and see. -
