Going to try to disarm someone armed with a gun is retarded. Unless it's literally your only move (to be fair, it probably was in this case), there is no reason to even try. Because here is what will happen 99.99999999% of the time: you lunge at them, they shoot at your now easily targeted mass and you fucking die. End of confrontation.

Old and fragile or not, the second he reached for that gun I'd be reaching to grab his wrist while simultaneously pushing forward trying to tackle the guy around just below his midsection. I'd like to think I'd have adrenaline enough to at least temporarily stop the person, if only to allow me just enough time for someone to notice and help, me to somehow wrestle the gun from him, or get a brief head start in trying to run away.
At the same time I'd never assume a stranger approaching me on the street was going to flat out kill me, so though I'd be on guard, it might be down enough if he just suddenly pulled a gun out and shot immediately. I'd assume maybe I was gonna get mugged, or harassed, or asked a question, but not to be fucking murdered.
