Sodium magnesium aggregate in place of lithium for birch reduction

    NaOH + Magnesium turnings and lots of heat = sodium magnesium oxide aggregate.

    Fuck stripping batteries just use this.

    magnesium is expensive as fuck and expensive as fuck to ship. altho...not as expensive as it could be considering how hazardous it is.

    Not really... $100 for 4lb and the price goes down when you buy in bulk. This is much better than shipping/buying and storing lithium/sodium. NaOH and magnesium are way better, I don't even know if this will work in a birch but It's pretty fucking reactive stuff, explodes in water. I don't see how the magnesium would interfere with the reaction.

    Fun fact, lithium is one of the 3 elements in the universe that can only be created through cosmic ray spallation.
