Sodium magnesium aggregate in place of lithium for birch reduction

Not really... $100 for 4lb and the price goes down when you buy in bulk. This is much better than shipping/buying and storing lithium/sodium. NaOH and magnesium are way better, I don't even know if this will work in a birch but It's pretty fucking reactive stuff, explodes in water. I don't see how the magnesium would interfere with the reaction. -
