Crime is a result of a 'strain' between legitimate goals and lack of opportunities to achieve those goals. Strain Theory argues that crime occurs when there aren't enough legitimate opportunities for people to achieve the normal success goals of a society.

I'm getting caught up in this shit too soon, I should try free trials and FEEL IT OUT. I just wanna dedicate myself to one.

why are you paying money for software. fruity loops has a special place in my heart, I remember making the shitty electronic music panthrax once described as a "sega in a blender" using a trial version of FL that didn't allow me to save and load songs so I just got really high and did everything in one go. messed around with it again a few years ago and its still so fucking easy to use and its even more versatile. I know ableton seems more pro or whatever but im pretty sure FL will satisfy you just fine so im voting for the home boy

I was gonna pay for it just because it seems right and I can't remember the last time I paid for any software whatsoever so it's like my way of encouraging myself to take the endeavour that much more seriously. If I invest into it I'll be more inclined to continue when the times come up where I may not necessarily feel like it. I think that's my train of thought anyway.

Yeah I was leaning FL not only because of it being much cheaper but also it just seems like the most beginner friendly one. I DLd the free trial one to mess around with for now.. same as when you had it I can't save anything I make with it but whatever. TIME WILL TELL NIGGA.

purposefully subjecting yourself to sunk cost fallacy seems kinda retarded but also very much in the spirit of this thread. however, you should think about how much better it would be if you just had both, and said fuck copyright laws. Besides, if you're being serious about spending money, you're going to have to shell out for all the plugins and shit that take these things to the next level.

One of my favorite plugins, I forget exactly what it was called, maybe Harmony? idk, but what it did was you could feed a picture to it and it would convert it into a sound that you could mess with. It was the most fun thing I'd ever played with I think, taking a picture of goatse and turning it into a sick sounding snare drum or something. Making the 9/11 towers into a synth. The synthesia of it was just perfect.

Of course that's an example of something that's probably more for fun and less for serious audio work but still, you're gonna have to shell out for dem plugins and honestly just fucking pirate it dude.

oh btw thinking about this, I realized that several years ago I had the foresight to upload all that music I made to soundcloud so it didn't vaporize when my hard drives died. enjoy these classic tunes, circa 2006-2009 using FL trial, sans any tutorials or outside knowledge of how anything works. https://soundcloud.com/user-868890802

when I came back to FL years later and actually watched a few tutorials and how people do things it was so hilarious, I managed to do things in ways that would seem retarded and ridiculous, and had no idea how many things functioned. what I'm saying is that its so easy even a moron can do it

I had never heard the term sunk cost fallacy. Thank you. I like to think that I'm not going to be UNHAPPY trying to learn everything there is to know, but if I get frustrated it would just be a friendly reminder that I need to PERSERVERE. But also I'm easily persuadable so lol maybe I will just fucking pirate it..or them even. I suppose I could always pay for it down the line if it were to become a real passion for me.

I still want to buy some things at least.. I have a synthesizer but it's 25 years old although it doesn't suck but idk.. I probably need a new computer altogether as well that can better handle the memory and processing power needed for these DAWs.

I'm genuinely a basic bitch regarding this stuff so it's just gonna be a learning endeavour for me as I go.

Audio processing is not nearly the processing hog that video is. rendering or compiling or whatever the fuck its called that audio does, it takes like - minutes, maybe an hour at the outmost? Rendering video - fucking hours and hours, 16, 24+. I had a buddy that used to rap and make music videos, making a song is infinitely easier than making a video. If your computer was made in the last 15 years you shouldn't have any issues, although idk, maybe there are certain things that require a lot of juice. Most of the time its not.

btw you don't need to learn everything there is to know. all you need to learn is how to make music. then you need to learn how to make it better. learning everything is a ridiculous task. music is supposed to be a joy.

Yeah that's some of the gist I've been gathering as I've looked into it... Even professionals that say they probably ultimately use like 15-20% of what the program actually has to utilize. I'll just do the YouTube route and try and soak in a bunch of tutorials. My main thing is wanting to be able to translate the sounds in my head into the music.. any thing I've dabbled in in the past was just fucking around with presets and making a song that way.
