Australia has obviously made some laws to target the Chinese (that have had inadvertent effects on new Zealanders) to do with immigration and capital flight (as well as others I'm sure) but I was not aware of any anti Asian rhetoric in your mainstream news.

I just heard that joke yesterday. The person I heard it from apparently heard it from someone who worked at the CBC many years ago so maybe there is so latent bigotry in our media
Chinese do, in fact, eat dog. A lot. I used to live down the street in Beijing from a restaurant that was called something along the lines of Wang's Dog Eatery. Exactly like Charlie's Steakhouse, except owned by Wang and the specialty was dogs and i'm going to stop now because the topic is depressing. In any case, there is no "latent bigotry" in the joke. -

You must have lived in a super shitty part because all the dog eateries are usually hidden away or banned in cities. You can't find dog meat in Beijing anymore. The CCP is trying to stamp it out.
Nothing wrong with it except that some of those dogs are beaten or stolen, and all of them are living in shit conditions. -
