I'm not saying he's right or wrong, I'm just saying that thr criticism you see of thr Chinese mindset is pretty much of an apologist for the Chinese people and is very careful to separate the people from the government

propaganda pushing people into anti-China stances is absolutely mainstream here and in the US - around half of the points in OP are outright false or misrepresentations.

our defence minister recently made the statement that we needed to 'engage China in the pacific'... with submarines built from materials we bought from China... because they were 'threatening sea trade routes'... which we use primarily to trade with China

and in regards to the second part, only foreigners see it that way - the Chinese people overwhelmingly support their government, so trying to separate the two is really just a weak attempt to start the argument with 'I'm not racist, but...'

I didn't read the whole op because I could tell pretty quickly what it was about. I have not seen much in the way of mainstream anti Asian rhetoric in ANY prominent US publications Ober the last few years, they are obviously very careful and for good reason.

Also your defense minister wouldn't be very much of a defense minister if he didn't name the yellow peril. They're literally the only reasonable threat to the country. Even if his plan was redundant, it would be silly not to call them out for making scary sandbag atolls and putting aircraft on them. What else is going to justify his position and budget? Brunei? Australia has obviously made some laws to target the Chinese (that have had inadvertent effects on new Zealanders) to do with immigration and capital flight (as well as others I'm sure) but I was not aware of any anti Asian rhetoric in your mainstream news.

Also how do you know a chinaman has broken into your house?

A: your dog is eaten and your kids homework is done!!!!!

I just heard that joke yesterday. The person I heard it from apparently heard it from someone who worked at the CBC many years ago so maybe there is so latent bigotry in our media

They're the country's primary trading partner, and those comments have already led to massive disinvestment, reduction of trade volume, reduced student intakes etc. Are they a credible threat to their own trading interests? The problem is Australia's always tried to balance interests between the US/UK and China, and we're allowing ourselves to be used as a pawn in their trade conflicts.

The real issue with China (primarily China but other nations as well) is insane levels of foreign ownership of land and properties - this is because so much of the economy is tied up in real estate that the government can't let prices naturally fall, and in a lot of cities the only people who can afford to buy property are either foreign investors or the already rich. They're allowing huge swathes of the most valuable areas in the country to foreigners, often aligned-with or part of foreign governments

RE: militarisation of the SCS, I don't really care. We aren't contesting any part of it, it isn't our business

You know for a slant eye you really do know fuck all about China.

They do not believe in Westphalian sovereignty. To them there are great powers and there are tributary states. Everything in their periphery they see as tributary state.

They've also consistently and recently used trade sanctions as a weapon against what they see as tributary states acting out, ie the trade dispute with Australia. It stands to reason that - if they could - they would use their navy to put embargoes on Australia trading with anyone else in Asia.

The USN is the only thing preventing that. The least other western militaries can do is help out.

the US is doing exactly that in other regions; why do you think one choice is better than the other?

Aus is so import reliant China could choke them out with some trade war Kung fu. China relies on cheap Aus coal as well but would likely find a substitute before Australia finds a partner for their relationship.

Australia putting barriers on foreign ownership of property is the right thing to do. The housing market would be like Vancouver if it was allowed to continue and the best things about the country would vanish. I'm not sure what the construction and development industry is like in your country right now but hopefully it's being headed by Australians themselves. When you start letting foreign nationals start companies they find ways to skirt regulations pretty quickly and before you know it they're entrenched in a sector and start making the rules there.

    lol.

arsetralians needed freedom of navigation to secure the shiping lanes from china so that she can safely ships her stuffs to her biggest buyer china, on china ships ?

arsetralians have more reasons to protect her shipping routes to china from US blockade more than the reverse.

im sure you got this from chinese sources.

this is the most retarded things in this entire thread. arsetralia ships negliable amount of stuffs to asian countries. and it would cost china more money to navily blockade arsetralia than what arsetralia-asian trade could generate,

    this is pure US propanganda.

The USN is the only thing preventing that. The least other western militaries can do is help out.

yea, like how it pirated life saving fuel supplies to venezuella and shot down iranian civilian airline. USN is nothing but a bunch of state sponsored pirates and people who think theyre the good guys are either retarded, or a shill for the judeo-capital industrial complex.
