Australia putting barriers on foreign ownership of property is the right thing to do. The housing market would be like Vancouver if it was allowed to continue and the best things about the country would vanish. I'm not sure what the construction and development industry is like in your country right now but hopefully it's being headed by Australians themselves. When you start letting foreign nationals start companies they find ways to skirt regulations pretty quickly and before you know it they're entrenched in a sector and start making the rules there.

just because we benefit from the exploitation at the moment doesn't mean it's going to last - that aside, China is our primary trading partner and no other party is going to be able to replace that market regardless of who ostensibly controls the trade routes.

Trade diversification can and will happen. China was not always your biggest trade partner, and will not always be in the future.

China is still developing, the US is collapsing. It provides a much more stable long term plan than any other major power, especially given the prospect of the BRI.
