The whole semicolon makes sense now, I bet you havent had a proper, full length colon in years.

I don't use the semicolon at all - it's better just to use either a comma or hyphen, it's clearer that way.

If you think that's bad try writing a semi-colon.

Billion dollar idea: autocorrect but it adds semicolons where appropriate.

Seriously, it's been bothering me. I never use semicolons. I've gone through 30 years of life relying on hyphens, awkwardly placed periods, and overusing commas to compensate for this crippling deficiency of mine.
Here's the last two paragraphs of an article I just finished. I used a semicolon!!!!! Stepping out on a limb. I use a semicolon when it feels like there should be an mdash, but if it is two complete sentences, I use a semicolon instead. It is like the word "therefore" only softer. "Therefore" is like slamming a pin into place, while a semicolon is like dropping it into place.
Whereas propaganda is the carrot coaxing us toward disorder, censorship is the stick beating chaos into us. In contradistinction to the censors, those whose motives are unassailable and who are on the side of truth never seek to silence dissenting voices. Rather, the good guys seek debate. The aims of those like Sacha Baron Cohen, the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League, and others who actively work in the cause of censorship, are noxious to the greater good; they are guilty of a monstrous and unforgivable betrayal of Jesse and millions like him.
As someone who has experienced jail on three continents—in China, Venezuela, and the US, I know I can convince Jesse cops are pretty much the same everywhere and he should drop the absurd and toxic notion that the Kansas City police force is racist because it is descended from slave patrols. But, I can convince him only if I am allowed to talk to him.
