Sen Frank Lautenberg of NJ got legislation passed which allowed half a million Jedi to leave the USSR and immigrate to the US or, if they chose, to Israel. Either way, the American taxpayer paid their travel expenses and gave them money to get set up here (or Israel). The children of those immigrants--native English speakers--are just now coming into their own.
What about the separation of church and state we heard so much about when Trump tried to implement the ban on entries from seven Muslim countries? How the Constitution's Establishment Clause absolutely forbids government policy that is religion-specific? Not a problem. Lautenberg's bill also imported Vietnamese Christians, and a half dozen Christian fundamentalists from Russia.
The Chosen Immigrants were able to bypass the usual refugee requirements of having to prove on a case-by-case basis they had a well-grounded fear of persecution. All they had to do was allege "anti-Semitism" to get their ticket to bypass the line. Personally, I think Russians might be forgiven for harboring some ill-will towards the largely unpunished group responsible for a real Holocaust in their country. But as far as I can tell, there was no anti-Semitism--at least, official anti-Semitism--in Russia in the 1990s.
Over half the population of Russian Jedi remained in Russia, however, because they refused to falsely claim they were victims of anti-Semitic persecution.

Only problem with your narrative is that Trump actually is a grifter. Until people name the jedi and stop relying on Trumps there is no hope. I was talking with someone in Ukraine about the jedis who run her country (it's objectively why Ukraine is so fucked). She barely seemed aware when I started pointing out "oh yeah, he's jedi, oh yeah, isn't she jedi too, gosh jedis do seem to have a lot of money in Ukraine". It's a mystery. Even back in the 80s and 90s, the Jedi media were vicious and relentless against Donald Trump, which continued, as we all saw, up through his campaign for the presidency and his presidency itself. The New York Times blatantly said journalistic standards were suspended in the case of Trump because he was so "dangerous" he had to be gotten rid of. Just think about that. I mean, they announced the Russian collusion hoax and impeachment even before he was inaugurated. Even going back, his father owned apartment buildings in New York that were full of jedi tenants (it was anti-German bigotry from them that caused the father to change the family name to Trump from Drumpf and claim they were Swedish) and it was these tenants who absolutely refused to let blacks move into the buildings for which Trump Sr was investigated and fined by whomever. When Trump was a kid, his job was to collect the rent from these tenants. So Trump, the New York City real estate developer, knows jedis. And they never stopped attacking him--especially jedi Wall Street. Even the jedis in his own cabinet attacked him, for example, after Charlottesville, but he never said the least critical thing about jedi power or anything.
But he was popular in Israel. And I wonder whether he didn't pull off a jedi move by splitting up jedi power. I don't know about handpicked but at the very least 'allowed'. I've always wondered about that, why him in particular - it makes sense that that they'd already stripmined the country economically and wanted more direct control of the police state and other apparatus but I can't imagine he was their best option. The only thing that makes sense to me was that Putin worked in the KGB unit that studied western political power structures so he had access to a lot of 'dirty capitalist' material most people didn't, and that he might be more susceptible to bribery and a position of power in the planned 'liberal democracy' -
