2020-12-10 at 1:36 PM UTCThere are cameras watching you (randomly of course), if you fail to scan something correctly and security guard #23 is watching you, you're going to be stopped on your way out, marched to the office where the police will be called and then charged with theft of women's pantyhose.

Originally posted by Ghost its fucking annoying. I was in a long line and the lady said "Excuse me sir but did you know the self checkout can speed up your shopping experience!"
When I working in retail, they put me in the self checkout area. I would go up to people and say, "I can help you down here. There's no line down here." They would follow me to the self checkout area and I'd say while pointing to a self checkout, "That one one there has your name all over it." People would get piss sometimes. I told a manager and he laughed. lol. -

Putting yourself out of your own job. Makes sense. Corporate masochism. -

2021-01-10 at 7:14 AM UTCI use to steal things by not paying for them in self checkout a lot.
You just go on scanning and then pick up an item you don't wanna pay for and just do a really bad job actually scanning it but make sure you say "BEEP" as you fake scan it.
Then just either put it directly back into the cart or if it isn't going to set off a funny on the scale just throw it in a bag and if the computer acts like it wants to freeze up and ask you a question just pick the bag off the scale and set it in your cart and keep on scanning.
If you get caught at any point just play dumb.
This won't work if you are not also actually paying for several other things.
That being said don't go self fake out a bunch of stuff and expect to get off Scott free when you get busted with an entire cart load of unpaid for merch. -

2021-01-10 at 8:07 AM UTCLol. I didn't know so many ppl had trouble finding barcodes on items.😶 I actually prefer self check out. I can place my hamburger meat over my eyeliner in the cart & scan the hamburger & place them both in the bag. Enter in yellow onions for vidalia, reg large tomatoes for plum. Bag them in a way that it easier for me to put away. Wow

Do the scales check for the specific weight of the item or just detect if anything has been placed in the bag?
One idea I have is this; Place a smaller hidden bag inside your normal shopping bag and have it so it is suspended on the metal bag holders above the scales. Pretend to scan the item (play a scanning beep sound from your phone?) then place it in the smaller hidden bag. The scales wont register anything as it will be suspended from the bag holder.
Any other ideas?
I scan only a portion of my items and walk outside richer every time, never been caught. undermine the system at every opportunity, make them pay for their mistake. After working all day and exhausted, i am now expected to be my own bagger and my own cashier for over 50 pounds of food and items, fuck that bullshit.
i will be enjoying a goddamn discount for this extra inconvenience they so generously bestowed upon me. -
2021-01-10 at 9:05 AM UTCI usually use the self checkouts as well. I just like like it that at some stores they have to come over and do an override if I'm buying a gift card. Then I have to interact with someone. I hate that.

Low staff requirements = lower priced product. By scanning the stuff yourself you are saving money. -

Yes but if the store had kept it's 50 cashiers...the price would have gone up even higher...duh.what exactly makes you think that a for-profit company wants to save YOU money?
Competition is fierce in the grocery business...that's why.
Aldi for example has stolen a lot of business from places like Walmart simply because their prices are lower...Aldi does that by keeping overheads to a minimum...aka only 1 or 2 staff members vs 100 on shift at the same time. (depending on store size of course). -

competition among megacorps is as fake as the competition between professional wrestlers, they all coordinate and cooperate their operations including this latest one to throw more people out of jobs and thus collect more profits.
their end game is to make themselves money, not to make you more money. what kind of idiot believes they benefit from someone elses self-interest? the same kind of idiot that gets lynched in a BLM rally for being white despite spending his whole life fighting for somebody elses civil rights. -
2021-01-12 at 4:40 PM UTCIt's true they are all gangsters and criminals like DTE the makeup thief. Is there anyone honest left in this world anymore?

2021-01-13 at 4:05 AM UTCEverything is going to ecommerce anyways. So those cashiers and self stockers should just go work in warehouses, tech jobs, and delivery driver jobs. Even warehouse jobs and delivery driving jobs are at risk for automation. Best thing to do imo, is save and invest as much as you can right now so you'll be prepared for the future. Getting into tech is also a good choice.
