    Daler, in Dutch means something that goes low. It might have something to do with the word 'daal' which means valley. Low German is pretty similar to Dutch. Old English like English from 1000 years ago, has a lot of commonalities with old Dutch too. It's pretty interesting.

    The UK has 20 pence coins too. It's really not an uncommon denomination, but I can see how it could be confusing for the colonies.
