The real issue is about kid's in American schools not getting lunch. If you have money your parents can make you a lunch or you can buy a school lunch. If you don't have money, you either get nothing, or often times the schools make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I don't get why the lunch isn't just included in tuition/taxes like schools in most of the world, but it's pretty fucked if you're a poor kid and can only get one peanutbutter and jelly sandwich to eat during the day. Kids are growing and need around as many calories as an adult.
Not to mention the FUNDING for these peanutbutter and jelly sandwiches comes from the community taxes, just like the funding for books, teacher salaries, desks, repair, etc. Unlike most countries, which fund their public schools equally and on a national level. This is one of the reasons American schools are considered such shit.
Obviously you can imagine this disproportionately effects black people and other minorities. If your parents don't have money, you get a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich. If your school doesn't have money, you just get nothing. Fuck you. You don't deserve to eat, and you don't deserve an equal education, amirite? -
