the style of 70s and 80s just can't be reproduced it seems. the closest I'v seen recently (at least in the USA) is maybe US and Get Out by Jordon Peele. I'm surprised he was a fan and clearly loved that old style of film making in which he didn't need high tech Fx but actually seemed to rely on the surrealism of something that Roman Polanski managed to pull off in RoseMary's Baby (which is listed as all time classic horror) but there are other creepy Italian or Polish and Russian films done classic surrealism from the 70s

I was thinking about this flick for some reason...

Oddly I think Dracula is hott af in this ..

But at the end of the day ..Keanu Reeves was the most attractive person in the world in this movie at this time in his life ...

Don’t know who plays Dracula ..
“ I’ve crossed Oceans of time to find you”

    That’s hott af ..

Horrors these days are absolutely fucking shite. Few have made me jump etc.

However, there have been some that have succeeded. I saw the The Blair Witch 2, that fucking Slenderman creature at the end shit me up.

Sinister will always be a favourite of mine due to how it was filmed perfectly. The old cinefilm used by the children as they murder their families made it all the more terrifying. I've always found something eery about old pictures/ video camera footage.

Yup, "horror" movies these days mostly rely on gore...the old black and white classics relied on story and atmosphere....not shit like a cat jumping up at the window as some big titted bitch looks out of it.

I'v been pointing this out for a long time as well. the story was often carried in the acting and as you stated atmosphere.

there are lots of late 1960s and early 70s films out of Italy or Poland or Russia that made some of the scariest shit. the kind that sticks in your nightmares.

the kind of weird pulse that Roman Polanski did in Rosemary's baby's John Kennedy dream scene. incorporating what Rosemary was seeing while her mind was hearing the neighbors argue next door. where their argument becomes apart of the dialogue and the actors were lipsyncing to the real argument. stuff that really happens in the sub conscious of the mind when you're really dreaming. mixing the real world with the dreams hallucination.

that makes for a great film scene and not depending strictly on CGI.

I heard someone refer to this as the Morrison Effect from Jim Morrison interview in 1969 about how he envisioned one person with electric synth instruments and a drum machine device creating his own music. it will lose something special about it.

On one other note regarding Jim was he said Rock n Roll was dying. because in a way it was. Folk "Rock" became the thing in the early 70s but England thankfuly got into Rock and brought us Led Zepplin and Black Sabbath and though some would argue who started "Metal" was Steppenwolf (canadian and US members) vs Ozzy out of England those bands took off and rock music continued on while "Soul" and "Funk" continued the MoTown sound into the 70s.

Then Americans first created Punk and of course England defined the image of Punk with Sex Pistols and Buzzcocks and Joy Division and al that other shit.

20 years after that and Herby Handcock made the One Man Band thing a popular thing. shit, its funny because you don't even have to know how to play at least a Keyboard Piano style Synth instrument anymore. you just need to push buttons on a digital display box like Hiki is doing.

Tech-Cuckery runs paraLOL with films carried by CGI alone. no fucking imagination really

Also I really like US by Jordan Peele. he really took old school style of Arthouse back into mainstream though not alot are follwing him as far as large Greenlit projects go. not everyone has his budget and Film Producers dont want to fork out big money un some artistic style film

He already established a name and trust so he got it done though Im sure with lots of hesitation and probably put much of his own money into it. I dont know the background of what he had to go through but this movie I myself enjoyed a lot.

    Gather 'round.

    There is no death.

It is only a transition to
    a different sphere of consciousness.

Carol Anne is not like those
    she's with.

    She is a living presence...
    in their spiritual earthbound plane.

    They are attracted
to the one thing about her...
    that is different from themselves...
    her life force.

    It is very strong.
    It gives off
    its own illumination.

It is a light that implies life...
and memory of love and home
    and earthly pleasures...
    something they
    desperately desire...
    but can't have anymore.

Right now, she's the closest thing
    to that...
    and that is
    a terrible distraction...
    from the real light
that has finally come for them.

    Do you understand me?

    These souls, who for
whatever reason are not at rest...
    are also not aware
    that they have passed on.

    They're not part of consciousness
    as we know it.

    They linger in
    a perpetual dream state...
    a nightmare from which
    they cannot awake.

    Inside the spectral light
    is salvation...💖
a window to the next plane.

    They must pass through
    this membrane...
    where friends are waiting
to guide them to new destinies.

    Carol Anne must help them
    cross over...
    and she will only hear
    her mother's voice.

    Now...

    Hold on to yourselves.

    There's one more thing.

    A terrible presence
    is in there with her.

    So much rage.

    So much betrayal.

    I've never sensed
    anything like it.

    I don't know
    what hovers over this house…
but it was strong enough to punch
    a hole into this world…
    and take your daughter
    away from you.

    It keeps Carol Anne
    very close to it…
and away from the spectral light.

    It lies to her.

    It says things
    only a child can understand.

    It has been usin' her
    to restrain the others.

    To her, it simply is
    another child.

To us, it is the beast.
