Does anyone fish?

He walked several yards away and drilled another hole and peered into the hole and again the voice said, “There’s no fish down there.”
He then walked about 50 yards away and drilled another hole and again the voice said, “There’s no fish down there.”
He looked up into the sky and asked, “God, is that you?”

I think that’s what my friend was trying to do but the line kept getting snagged where they like to play .. they were jumping out literally in some parts of the water ... -

A lot of species are like this. As my friend who taught me how to use a Hawaiian sling said, they didn't get that big by being stupid.
Get a decent diving suit and maybe a weight belt/snorkel, and you'll notice a ton of huge fish from lots of species hiding from Hawks and such
, where you can easily spear them. These fish will just look up and smile at you when you throw a hook with bait in the water.
Take the fight to the fish!
Where there's sharks and COCKodiles and such this may not be practical, but it's elsewhere a lot more effective -

Coney Island Whitefish mostly just float with the tide or lay on the beach. -
