“I guess whatever the fuck we’re doing is effective,” one organizer identified as Magik said over a megaphone…
Fucking lol -
2020-06-10 at 4:24 AM UTCI don't think that's much of a story tho. Cops more or less just pulled back from an area. Seems like a tactical move to calm people down to me. And it works. Police instigate most of this shit just by showing up. No reason to be there if no crime is happening other than people being in the street.

Understandable, but I think it would've been a much wiser long-term plan to reduce presence instead of withdrawing completely.
For one thing moving forward this will be seen as a victory of the protesters over the police, cementing the idea that they're diametrically opposed and that compromise isn't possible, which will make any sort of agreement in the future very difficult.
Further this is all good and well for the moment, but once supplies run short and services start to break down things are going to get wild super fast. I imagine the police will return before that happens but now that they've left they're going to see a fight if they come back. -
2020-06-10 at 4:42 AM UTCThat's a lot of speculation and I think the idea of them being 'diametrically opposed' is all in your head and not representative of what people here actually think like.
Nobody wants to ACTUALLY disband the police. Nobody thinks they're the enemy. They just want reform and the ability to protest peacefully without bullshit 6pm curfews or risking being attacked by police. Not a lot to ask for I think. -

2020-06-10 at 9:30 AM UTCthey wanna take 10% of the pigs here. lmao they barely show up to do anything...never mind if your life depended on it. so a 911 calls be like waiting a few hrs instead of an hour. probably beat up more niggers too. not much of a change.
they gotta get 50% or better of them...than shit would hit the fan from all sides. -

Yes, disband something that CAN be controlled in favour of a glorified community watch program.
While you're at it, take away any guns that could have helped protect you.
Fuck that. If Minneapolis really does disband their police I'll be across the Canadian border so god damned fast you'll all think I've been trolling about being American. -
2020-06-10 at 11:08 AM UTCsubbed for inevitable lulz.
I really just hope the police give everyone in Minneapolis a couple weeks notice and then go somewhere else. They can be the experiment for the rest of the country. -
