I would have thought of it, if I wasn't fatly trying to get my hands on it like a chubby kid who cannot wait for the pie to cool.
It works fine with the plastic pitcher, but now I just put in water because I realized the best you can do is to average out the temperature of the entire [water and pitcher] system (and they both are losing some energy steadily to the environment), so ice is not necessary or efficient to bring the temperature down from boiling: the difference between the water and ice, and environment, is smaller than then difference between the water and the pitcher. So ice would be better to bring the temperature down once it's already at room temp.
So now I just get it to room temp then put ice in my glass and poured the tea over it.

oh yeah that true. I guess even a bagh of warm water would cool hotmwater. The heat transfer is prollynfaster in glass. idk how much faster though. Prolly depends on hiccness of the pitcher.
