I have never even heard of a store calling the cops for fake bills. I used to work at a store and it was our duty to authenticate the money at the register. The policy I had to work with was "We don't accept fake money, so don't take it"
which also means you have to actually look at each bill, hard to do with a transaction worth thousands paid for all in small bills because drug dealers don't use banks
very easy to slip a few fakes in there and save yourself some bucks.
It takes less time to authenticate a bill than it does to deal with police. Hold it up to the light, do it for every transaction quickly, it's not hard. Dialing 911 should be a last resort, not the first one.
