2017-08-26 at 12:35 AM UTC in I recently whipped out / upgraded my desktop and my muscle memory brought me back to totseI think it's because from the ages of 12 to 18 I was always browsing totse on a desktop. It was my go-to site when I'd open up the browser. I've mostly been on laptops since, I suppose. Though not really, I did have this desktop like 4 years ago, just with a shittier graphics card. Maybe there's something about this keyboard being more like the keyboard I had back in the day. I feel like the keys feel "sharper" if that makes sense. My last keyboard I think had smoother, rounder keys. So some part of my neural networks were clearly really activated by all these signals that were similar to the past.
So I guess I'm here again. I'll probably forget about it for a while. Maybe I'll come back and check this thread a few times though. I wonder what other former totseans are up to. I've gotta say, it seems like just a bunch of racist, conspiratorial bullshit. I haven't browsed around much though. I remember there being more interesting discussions back in the day. -

I do realize that's a thing, I bumped a few of the numbers for session lengths so people wouldn't get logged off as often so if you load a page you're considered active for like a month or something (I don't remember the new numbers). One of the params actually controls session length and the other controls the math for "who's online".
Oh that makes sense. Can I still attribute it to malintent though? -

Unfortunately no. I can get threads for you that you specifically request but opening up the whole forum won't happen. It was closed due to being backstabbed and having some utterly terrible members who wouldn't calm down or screw off. As I said a long while ago, the original Sanctuary isn't dead but it's moving very far away from you all. To everyone that wasn't involved in the faggotry, sorry but it's nothing personal. To the people that were involved, it's incredibly personal.
As to the experimental (vB) version of Sanctuary I moved to the vB version BECAUSE of the faggotry. Heck, I wasn't expecting the vB version to last at ALL. And when I made it at the time, it was just to test the vB 4.2 software. Hence, the "Experimental" moniker. But every once in awhile, people keep popping in for some reason… So I keep it open still.

Well it's like having a bigger dick, it just looks nice. When people go to your github account and see that big dick, they get jelly and want to hire you. I kid a bit, obviously, but that kind of shit does have an impact on people unfortunately.Infosec stuff is interesting through, or at least exploits are. But then exploit discovery is kind of a tedious process, you either read a lot of source most of which will be secure or you try a lot of blind attacks and see if they work. Attack surface is what produces exploits like 90% of the time, it's comparatively rare that a genuinely novel idea rolls around. Like you find out SQLi is a thing which is cool followed by decades of people finding examples of SQLi vulnerabilities is like, good to know but in the same sense that it's good to know that a given streetlight in your city is out. You want to know that someone knows it, and someone has a pressing need to know it, but you only care in the most detached sense. And then there's opsec which is definitely important but man I just can't be fucked with most of the time, it's just feels like hoops.
It's the sort of thing that I feel doing professionally would completely destroy the fun of. That's just a guess though. Most of the fun in doing security stuff is getting into places you're not supposed to be in and exploring. If you had to turn that into a day job where they were expecting you to jump in and as soon as you found a hole you couldn't explore more, I'm guessing that would get old.
