They don't need to destroy their infrastructure to prevent you from having access to it. As long as there is a single private company between you and communicating, pressure can be applied there and your access can be terminated. -

Alt tech is built on big tech infrastructure, relies on big banking, etc. You basically have to have an alternative internet and an alternative society built from the ground up to support the existence of a true "alt tech". As it is, someone somewhere can always shut off the money faucet or forbid you from using their internet infrastructure (be that server hosting or the goddamned cables in the ground - none of it is public, and all these private businesses have a right to refuse service to you or a company that refuses to refuse service to you).
