Why would banks care? If their investments crater they just lay off some headcount, go get bailed out, and everything continues like normal.
We're living in full socialism for the rich, why should the poor not get some of that action? -

2020-04-18 at 8:25 PM UTC in New Yorkers plan Rent Strike
New York City housing activists are gearing up for a “massive wave” of rent strikes.
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-04-16/new-york-housing-groups-call-for-massive-wave-of-rent-strikes
They’re calling on tenants across the city to withhold payments beginning May 1 to pressure Governor Andrew Cuomo into canceling rent while much of the economy is shut down.
“With so many New Yorkers unable to pay rent for the foreseeable future, the current crisis is unsustainable and demands action,” groups including Housing Justice for All and New York Communities for Change said in a statement Thursday. “Many tenants have no ability to pay rent, and landlords can’t collect rent from tenants who are broke.”
The groups want to organize 1 million New Yorkers and get the governor to cancel rent payments at least for April, May and June.
While many states and cities have imposed eviction moratoriums during the public health crisis, housing groups around the country have been advocating for the government to do more amid widening job losses.
Landlords have been bracing for missed rent. So far, though, about 84% of tenants in a national sample have made a full or partial payment for April, according to a survey released Wednesday by the National Multifamily Housing Council. That was an improvement from an earlier snapshot that showed rent collections were down steeply this month.
Undocumented immigrants, in particular, will have a hard time making up missed rent payments and may face a massive wave of evictions after restrictions are lifted, said Lena Melendez, an activist who said her building was going on rent strike.
Landlords “have gotten looked after,” Melendez said.
“They have gotten tax abatements and deferments on their mortgages. And tenants have just gotten a temporary freeze, a pause, on evictions,” she said.

If the Irish government developed a bioweapon, and it escaped, and was spreading in whiskey, then yes I would, as they wouldn't want their weapon to be studied by foreign scientists or to poison the drinkers of Irish whiskey. -

When Corona escaped in Wuhan they locked down the whole city for 3 weeks - literally locked everyone - healthy people and all - in their homes and brought them food. They may have known about the properties of the virus.
The only thing that doesn't make sense is why they didn't also close the airports for outgoing flights - perhaps they feared being accused of being illiberal and Soviet by not allowing international travel.
It's amazing how shit our advice has been "if you're feeling unwell..." - "if you have a fever" - "15 minutes in contact with an infected person". It's obvious that our medical establishment still think it's just a flu bro.
Also there is no evidence or even reason to think that any immunity forms from Corona - there are so many repeat cases that it's beyond a joke. So much for the horseshit theory of herd immunity.
"It's just a flu bro".
Not even masks.
This shit is fucked and it's just going to get waaaay worse. -

According to Professor Luc Montagnier, winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 2008 for “discovering” HIV as the cause of the AIDS epidemic together with Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, the SARS-CoV-2 responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic is a virus that was manipulated and accidentally released from a laboratory in Wuhan, China, in the last quarter of 2019. According to Professor Montagnier, this laboratory, known for its work on coronaviruses, tried to use one of these viruses as a vector for HIV in the search for an AIDS vaccine, Gilmore Health reported after Montagnier was interviewed on a medical podcast.
http://thejedivoice.com/2020/04/2008-nobel-prize-for-medicine-winning-dr-luc-montagnier-says-covid-19-was-manipulated-for-hiv-research/
Dr Luc Montagnier discovered the HIV virus back in 1983.
“With my colleague, bio-mathematician Jean-Claude Perez, we carefully analyzed the description of the genome of this RNA virus,” explains Luc Montagnier, interviewed by Dr Jean-François Lemoine for the daily podcast at Pourquoi Docteur, adding that others have already explored this avenue: Indian researchers have already tried to publish the results of the analyses that showed that this coronavirus genome contained sequences of another virus, … the HIV virus (AIDS virus), but they were forced to withdraw their findings as the pressure from the mainstream was too great.
In a challenging question Dr Jean-François Lemoine inferred that the coronavirus under investigation may have come from a patient who is otherwise infected with HIV. No, “says Luc Montagnier,” in order to insert an HIV sequence into this genome, molecular tools are needed, and that can only be done in a laboratory.
The good news is : according to Montagnier “Nature does not accept any molecular tinkering, it will eliminate these unnatural changes and even if nothing is done, things will get better, but unfortunately after many deaths.”
You can listen to the podcast here, it is in French
Every day it is becoming clearer that COVID-19 came from the laboratory in Wuhan. You must put aside the wild conspiracy theories that this was a “bio weapon released on purpose” that is unproven speculation. It seems totally credible that this virus somehow escaped from the lab and did not come from bats in a “wet market”
The jedi Voice is not a “conspiracy” website or newspaper, Luc Montagnier’s claims are the most credible yet in regards to the origin of Coronavirus. -

And yes that is highly selfish. Everyone has had to make their way with out taking advantage of letting an entire generation die off. I’m not saying you’re a me me me MOON PERSON. But the point you’re making sounds like one.
Also, not saying ALL MOON PERSONs are about me me me, but you’re playing right into the stereotype.
A 20 year old would be a zoomer. The MOON PERSONs are all hitting middle age now.
But MOON PERSONs aren't exactly thriving either.
Low wages and high rent. No unions, free trade, mass immigration, automation and de-industrialisation - unless you're in IT or a sheltered part of the economy like medicine its not a great time to be a worker. -

Originally posted by Technologist Could and would never agree with this. Of course people are going to die, but are you saying exacerbating it is ok?
Nope can’t agree with the selfish belief that it’s ok to let the most vulnerable just die off, to make way for them. Selfish indeed. This may be something many don’t get here, but ya’ll’s gonna get old too. Don’t wanna hear the edgy “but I’m gonna die before that”. I’m used to say that too. I didn’t think I’d make it past 40.
Nahhh
So if it's selfish for a 20 year old to wish old people died off, do you think that old people give 20 year olds a fair deal? -

Originally posted by Technologist Did you watch it? He didn’t say anything that I don’t like due to anxieties. He made misleading statements by comparing this to swimming pool deaths, car crashes, HIV, and smoking. Apples and oranges. Everything but HIV does not even have a transmission rate, and HIV’s transmission rate is nothing like this.
Yes, that is misleading in a way, but reminding people that people die isn't necessarily a bad thing. The news would have us panic over a few thousand deaths, as if people never die, and that is misleading too.
I mean I get your point, the core of the issue is the extreme danger of mass deaths and disease posed by Corona, where we could potentialy have not thousands people dying but millions. But you need to point that out explicitly, and also work to help the people who are affected by this.
Also if you were a 20 year old with high rent and low wages you might think Corona spreading is a good thing, as it'll clear out some old people and make you some room to live and maybe move up in your organisation. Not everyone has the same point of view.
