I don't follow hip hop much anymore. I really hate the stuff about how I do drugs and fuck skanks and have lots of cars and I don't try in life. I feel like it's cruel to sell young men this lie - getting ahead in life is not glamorous or sexy, it's working hard and struggling and dealing with self doubt and pushing ahead with things that don't pay off immediately. That kind of rap is intellectual junk food. Feels good at the beginning but it will only make your life worse.
I really like some the older stuff that was more positive, and felt more real, a lot of it seemed distinctly african american so I definitely wasn't the target audience, but I could appreciate it.
Classic Key and Peele sketch which sums it up

stl1 - he hasn't said enough to really distinguish him from the other NPCs. Haven't really got a feel for him yet.
wario - don't remember this name ?
Larry can't digest large posts, both Obbe and Technologist show an ability to do so. -

My sincerest apologies. I've heard this view point expressed by progressives before, and I put words in your mouth.
Originally posted by Technologist You have in no way experienced years of living In the USA.
I have experienced years in a country dominated by American socio-political views, as a member of a shrinking white minority, under an education that told me I was responsible the under-performance of brown-skinned ethnic groups that I quickly learned had nothing but hostility towards me - even during childhood.
There are surely some parallels to draw, no? I have been gracious enough to use the United States as an example here, but we could switch to New Zealand if you'd like. I just really don't want to disadvantage you too much, it's not sporting.
Originally posted by Technologist Pew research is a very reputable research group. You can see how Americans feel about racism. Not New Zealanders, not Irishmen, not Australians, but Americans.

Interesting results, but reality is not a democracy. Pew would have had some fascinating results for the good people of any indoctrinated society. -

Yeah but I really don't feel good about debating people that dumb. It's classless to be a bully. Like the guy admitted he had trouble reading my 244 word post on progressives being graceless winners. He complained about how long winded it was, and all the paragraphs! At some point you have to realise you're the dick if you continue the conversation.
Where as with Obbe and Technologist, you do feel like they pick up on some of what you're saying. I mean they should know better, but the lights are on and someone is home. I feel like Obbe copy pasting everything is more a case of him being a lazy stoner than being actually stupid. -

A white supremacist country plagued with systematic racism against non-whites where jedis and hindus are the wealthiest groups and white supremacists are the trash of society.
I wish I was clever enough to understand how this could all work, because from my vantage point it seems a little bit like it doesn't make sense. -

Originally posted by Technologist the white supremacists, the trash of society.
I don't follow - you believe the US is under an invisible force called systemic racism. And also that it's a white supremacist society. If it was a white supremacist society, then surely white supremacists would form an elite social group, and not be trash? How could a white supremacist society have white supremacists as its lowest tier?
Guess I'm not educated enough to understand this. -
2020-07-24 at 11:41 PM UTC in Technologist: let's have a 'constructive conversation about systemic racism'
Yes I did; according to the source you provided, the reason is that they are better educated. Do you disagree with your own source?
That would be a huge factor, yes. Would occams razor not suggest that the reason black people are less successful is also because they're less educated? And if you counter back with "they're less educated because of evil-whitey-magic-X", then you have to come up with a reason why "evil-whitey-magic-X" has failed to work on jedis and hindus.
Say what you will about the conditions of african americans in 1940, they were better than the conditions of hindus or jedis. Yet the latter two groups value hard work, and here we are.
My viewpoint on systemic racism is simple - systemic racism is a conspiracy theory which infatilises black people and makes a certain kind of white people feel a righteous tingle in their nipples because it's all their races fault but they can totally help. Hence the religious devotion we see in this thread. I see blacks as human beings fully capable of their own successes and failures, not an ethnicity of helpless children.
Is it not high time to relieve yourself of this burden? I believe he can walk up the hill un-assisted. -

He's still an athletic freak and can probably be entertaining for 1-3 rounds. But no one wants to see a 54 year old mike tyson wheezing into round 8. Well, maybe some people do.
