2020-02-05 at 11:39 PM UTC in VR is going to be the shitOnce HMDs have high enough resolutions to eliminate the screen door effect and games have full body tracking it's going to completely replace 2D gaming.
I had a dream I was playing a game that looked like Bioshock and the immersion was so amazing.
I could hide behind objects like pipes and stairs and keep through the cracks and corners to look out for enemies, then I would walk around and explore at one point I saw the edge of a tall drop and I nearly freaked out.
The strength of VR is in the immersion.
2D gaming is so static and alienating compared to being inside a game visually abd auditory. -

Music made by hobbyists vs music made for a living.
If soundcloud bedroom music is your thing fine, but I prefer to hear albums made by people who invest their lives into the music. -

Originally posted by Narc The record labels ruined music by taking over the artists ability to create, and make it all about fulfilling contracts and using formulas to create music that would most likely sell to the masses based on previous successes. In short they got the producers and A&R men to turn artists into glorified karaoke singers.
.
That's a problem that affects pop music.
Most record labels respect the artists or are run by the musicians themselves. -

2020-02-05 at 9:38 AM UTC in What are you listening to right now, space nigga?I'm my early 20s last.fm's radio was my whole world.
Sad how they've made that a subscriber only feature.
That site has really gone to shit and the new interface is ugly as fuck. -
2020-02-05 at 9:36 AM UTC in What are you listening to right now, space nigga?Check this band out
That's one of my favorite albums of all time.
Back in the late 00s and early 10s I was huge into post-rock and Japanese ambient, anything melancholic and atmospheric. -

Ask any MOON PERSON who lived through it
The 2010s were an awful decade.
The 2020s will see civilization collapse, I'll probably die sometime this year from the coronavirus. -

Originally posted by gadzooks Lol, dude, that's literally what nostalgia is.
Or, at least, to me that's what nostalgia is.
Maybe the two of us use the term in a way that differs from the rest of society.
For me, nostalgia is a time I want to genuinely return to.
you want to live in a particular lifestyle
It's like, do you want a room decorated to your liking or would you like to live in a bare and empty dwelling that looks like a jail cell.
Life today could easily be like 2006 if people would just go back to living like they did
Nostalgia is more like me wanting to be able to walk into a best buy and experience playing the DS for the first time -
2020-02-05 at 9:17 AM UTC in Piracy and streaming have ruined musicPeople wonder why the 2010s was such a bad decade for music, it's because of the spread of piracy.
There used to be a time when an artist had to go through so many hoops to make and release an album, so they put do much effort into the production.
Now anyone can easily make an album in their home and release it instantly.
This creates a culture of music consumption where people will experience music in a simialr way to how they consume jpgs and youtube videos, they'll listen to an album or some songs then move on to the next thing, they no longer develop an attachment to the music and albums, this mentally of instant gratification has diluted the art and spirit of music.
It used to be you had to go to a record store or order an album through a catalog, now days piracy and streaming has opened the floodgates to casuals like krotz that have a superficial appreciation of music, actual lovers of albums and music are dwindling and now the focus is on satisfying the masses with temporary entertainment.
The way you can combat this is to avoid piracy and buy the albums of the bands you listen to.
If enough people start doing this they'll be more inclined to put more effort into their production.
Compare something on a real label to a net label or bandcamp musician, you can hear the difference.
It's sad.
It's basically the state of radio only worse.
People listening to a song on soundcloud or YouTube, move on to the next new thing, the artists catering to this type of consumption.
In a couple decades you're going to see adults who never owned an album physically, maybe they've never even listened to a full album, -

I think we might just both suffer from some kind of nostalgia condition… Stuck in the past for whatever reason.
I wouldn't call it nostalgia.
That era is where I belong, it was the best time of my life.
It's like growing up in a beautiful town then moving to a shithole, of course you're going to miss what you lost. -

Originally posted by gadzooks I agree with about have your post. I would half thank if I could.
I don't exactly dislike the people here for the most part.
For me, it's kinda just about socializing with other human beings in general that kinda puts me off for some reason.
And about the Totse thing… I definitely miss Totse (I was literally raised by Totse - probably moreso than by my IRL parents).
But, while the Totse connection is what brought me to NiS in the first place. I've come to appreciate this site as its own distinct thing.
Yeah that's what 4chan and totse were for me
I have been a hikikomori since I was 11 or 12 and spent every waking moment of my life on the web with the exception of 2006 because I was living at my grandparents and they didn't have the internet.
Sad to see how boring and sterile the web has become.
I miss the days of going to bemansityle to download simfiles, or playing flash games on newgrounds at the library, or going to 4chan when it was actually 4chan.
I hope coronavirus isapocalyptic. -
