The dinosaurs were here before man was created. When the Earth was first formed, the land was soft and overrun with plant growth, too soft for proper human habitation. So the Creator put the dinosaurs on the Earth to pack down the soil and clear up most of the heavy growth, leaving large, hard-packed areas for proper human habitation. Once the purpose of the dinosaurs had been served, they were mostly eliminated from the equation, by design.
