I can't tell if you are joking or not. Mike Pence was fucking despised in Indiana by the end of his term. In 2016 he had an approval rating of 43% (compared to his predecessor's 77+%). You are absolutely crazy if you think Pence did well for Indiana's economy.
Mitch Daniels ran Indiana like a well oiled machine from 2004-2012, one of the most efficient states with some of the best growth statistics amongst its peers. He took Indiana from a projected 2 year deficit of $800m (which was being funded by reallocation from municipal governments and school districts) into a $300m budget surplus, and restored those funds to where they were appropriate.
Mitch Daniels did not give a single god damn fuck about social issues. He secured 170K jobs and $15b in investment to the state of Indiana, capped property taxes and balanced the budget. He left unemployment well below the national average.
Pence was picked by Daniels on the good faith assumption that he wouldn't ignore the 8 years of fiscal responsibility and Indiana's commitment to not focus on partisan social politics. And then he proceeded to do just that.
Whatever fiscal benefits Indiana saw were a carryover from the policies of Mitch Daniels. Pence's time in office is marked by failures of fiscal policy and unwanted and unpopular insistence on social policy. He cut ~$50m of government services off the budget then spent $100m hiring a PR firm for the IEDC to unfuck Indiana's image after trying and failing to ban gay marriage. Unemployment rose to the national average, Indiana's GDP growth sank to one of the slowest in the US by about a factor of 6x.
The only people Pence benefited was Indiana's richest. The rest of the state got fucked. Which is tragic because its trajectory was hopeful. -

America's strength and global hegemony is based on its economy, and retarded protectionist trade policies is quite literally the antithesis of what made America great in the first place. The US comprises 1/4th of the world's GDP and 3/4th of the world's Forex reserves are in USD. America's raw power is ultimately derived from the fact that EVERYBODY wants to do business with us, because American consumers have extreme purchasing power. On our end that's awesome because we can buy lots of shit or save lots of money.
The idea that these tariffs will bring back manufacturing jobs, it's frankly humiliating that almost half the US public believes it. The reason China can make shit cheaper is because their quality of life is way lower than ours. Manufacturing in the US is literally (I mean literally literally) never going to be competitive again, even in China their cheap workforce is losing jobs to automation.
Every time he enacts a new tariff, America loses, because the ONLY thing that ever happens is, the cost of the tariff is passed on to American consumers. Nobody buys less shit. Nobody buys more expensive American goods. You just have less money in your pocket at the end of the day. And even if you bought less shit, that's what it is: your purchasing power has gone down either way.
It's a way to tax American taxpayers more heavily while having literally zero benefit for American consumers, businesses etc. China etc are utterly unaffected by the tariffs on their end. Functionally all it is is a direct attack upon US consumers and businesses. -
