You're still not getting it. When electricity flows between the positive and negative terminals of a battery, that is simply the gradient equalising. The gradient didn't exist without the connection.

The main problem I see with that is it makes border control a more offensive organisation than it already is, and we've already seen how that goes with the police and virtually every other betabet agency.

Up next: AI drones patrolling over major cities with facial recognition systems looking for people on overstayed visas.

I don't know a single person who has ever crossed illegally. Everybody just goes through the guarded border because they don't want to spend days hiking through the desert and a 6mo visa is super easy to get.

Only the most desperate South Americans cross this way. And drug mules. I have only met one person who claimed to cross through the unguarded border and his family got deported and had to return with visas and get their green cards the correct way before they could stay. Illegal immigration is at a low right now, and has been going steadily down since 2007.

Yet all you right wing nuts choose to ignore this and continue to believe a wall would be effective at stopping a majority when only a minority of people even cross that way. Forget the fact that they'll just climb over/under/destroy the wall. Forget the private land on the border that could not be walled off. Forget everything because we hate brown people and chose to ignore the hard evidence that a wall would be ineffective.

    I am agreeing with you.

The smart wall proposals would be far better economically. But saying piss is better than shit doesn't make either of them good. It's just a dumb compromise idea that is being floated so everybody walks away unhappy but able to blame the other side of the aisle for blocking the real wall/burning billions on an unnecessary system.

We don't need any sort of border wall in the first place.

Energy isn't a "thing" like you seem to be picturing it. It's just the potential to do work (FD*cos theta) Useful energy is man made, because it is the gradient itself.

For example if you hoist water to a high reservoir, you do indeed convert kinetic energy into gravitational potential energy. But when you then drop it onto the water wheel, the kinetic energy that's going to move the wheel is simply the gradient between where the water is and where the water could be. There is nothing extra, it literally IS the gradient of higher to lower GPE (as in, it is a "three horizontal lines equals to sign" identity).

And this gradient is man made because it exists where it didn't before, but for the intervention of man.

Of course energy has to be put in to create the gradient, but the gradient exists where it didn't before.

Denying this is man made energy like saying there's no such thing as man made anything because it's all just natural stuff rearranged: it's just ignoring what the category "man made" means in the first place.

I guarantee some mexis with angle grinders are gonna start cutting off the iron bars and stealing them, leaving huge holes in the fences. And the American taxpayer will have to foot the repair bill of course.

That wasn't the only border wall btw..and again, a leaking faucet is better than a burst pipe.

Keeping out an invading army/force is quite a bit different than keeping out poor mothers with their whining children who are looking to make $5hr picking tomatoes.

Example of an effective wall: Berlin wall.

None of them have been effective due to the nature of a wall.

The point of a wall is to be enough of an obstruction to cross that whoever is defending it has a significant advantage at stopping them from crossing it. By itself a wall is defeated by a ladder, or a rope, or by a strong grip, it's just marginally more difficult than walking past it.

For a castle, a wall is extremely effective at keeping out anyone unauthorized. But for a walled city, it might be effective at keeping out armies but it won't keep out infiltrators because the city still needs to allow travel in order to enable trade and commerce and... Keep functioning. For a country, a wall becomes a joke.

That's why border walls that span thousands of miles are stupid as actual barriers. Even the Great wall of China was only somewhat useful because the walkway on top gave a great advantage in terms of moving troops along the border quickly rather than dealing with the hilly, unsure terrain below. But raiders would penetrate it all the time.

I don't think the "coyotes" who get illegal immigrants across are going to let a stupid fence stop them.

Useful energy is extracted via energy gradients, as I've already stated. And these are man made processes.

The only one that was a massive ass border wall spanning thousands of miles intended to keep people out, wasn't really effective at keeping those people out.

    Guess which wall that was.

A leaking faucet isn't as damaging as a burst pipe…

We already have immigration laws and enforcement, we just don't have a shit border wall burning a hole in our pocket because it's not worth it. I wouldn't even mind the "smart wall" proposals to use drone patrols etc because there is some actual positive economic stimulus possible with that in the tech sector as opposed to paying a handful of contracting companies billions to build and maintain the wall and hundreds of people to man and patrol it while generating jack shit. It might actually be effective and efficient rather than being a big dumb fence too.

This is a cuck emotional argument you could employ for anything.

Traffic accidents kill 40K people in the US annually, we could probably bring that number close to zero if you wanted to make the speed limit 10mph. But that would be retarded because nobody wants to drive around at 10mph all the time. So we accept a degree of risk we deem necessary or convenient. You'd save way more lives than building a border wall.

"B-but if your daughter might not have died if we had a 10mph speed limit, you might think differently about the convenience of going more than 10mph!"

Sure but then that's an unreasonable and emotionally driven, self centered concern that has zero bearing on what the society at large should do.

Hydro is a bitch who doesn't give a fuck about anyone but herself, anyone who deals with her in good faith deserves to be robbed and swindled.

The utility derived from the cost of the wall will be negative, specially compared to the opportunity cost for spending that money on a shit fence.
