    What good would shooting him do? Generally the point of putting someone in prison or to death in modern society isn't meant to be some Calvinist means of revenge, it's meant to either reform dangerous people or remove them from society so they can't harm it.
    
    If this guy has changed then what are you hoping to get from imprisoning or killing him aside from some petty notion of revenge?
