This will not simply go away after the election. He was selling influence as a VP directly to foreign companies. Using that influence to pressure a foreign government to not look into the shady business dealings going on in their own country. that'd actually be a pretty effective way to disseminate data if you knew that a computer recovery shop was run by a someone 'politically active' - if you steal someone's machines and drop them off for data recovery under their name it's an anonymous way to set off the fireworks
