cruise lines do something similar but infinitely worse. the first time i was on a cruise and the fuckers asked for my CC info for 'security' reasons i was suspicious…which was warranted…because after the cruise they billed me for all kinds of assorted bullshit that i didnt want. one of the BS charges was $50 in tips for each of the the maid, server, cleaner-person, and port/fuel fees 'in excess of what was billed when the cruise was booked.'
i out-jewed the fuckers when i go on cruises or go to resorts now by using it for the 'security deposit' then after im booked/checked in i call the CC issuer and tell them im on vacation so i need a 'hold' placed on the card so no one else can use it in case i lose it.
thats why i keep a low-balance credit card that i just use for stupid shit like that. car rentals…hotel/resorts…cruises…and ive caught haji gas stations doing the same thing. they place a 'hold' on your card when you run it.
you didnt mention charges for all the bloody mattresses your ass caused after your boyfriemd was done with you.

when i was in europe (europe back in the olden days…not europistan of modern times) i used to carry a duffle bag with the strap made to be quick-release with custom-poured lead weight on one end. i spray-painted it so it looked like some cheesy decoration and theres no way it could have been defined as a weapon. i walked through many airports, border check-points, train stations, and buses with it. the irony is the only time i ever used it was on some teenage pissant that tried to pick-pocket someone i was walking with. it gave me enough range that even though the kid was running away the end still made contact with his shoulder and resulted in a very satisfying girly squeak of pain.

You are thinking of some top-down direction rather than the actual bottom-up "sifting" that takes place in evolution.
For a simple demonstration of this idea, take a look at this video where deep learning is used to train an AI car to solve a track. Each car is spawned with random variations, and the ones that get furthest are selected to replicate and vary upon.
In this video the "selection mechanism" (that chooses which car is replicated) is the condition of getting furthest down the track.
Simply by having a selection factor for the environment and heritable variance, the environment can shape a car that can navigate that track.
But if the track is different, a different "family tree" will form because the cars really have no control over their environment and different ones will "die" and "spawn". And that will be a matter of pruning different branches of the "tree", not because the "tree" or any particular car has any agency.

then ok, fine. but it is not. its AI codes were written specifically with the purpose of thriving in its environemt, by keeping acts that let them thrive in their new environemnt and dropping acts that dont.
its not the environment that help it evolve, its the AI code. thats what selection is all about and where iy begins. -
