back before Port Arthur they didn't care too much, but now you can't even carry a utility knife around without a 'good reason' which is completely at the discretion of the police. OTF knives, butterfly knives and now karambits can't even be imported because they look mean and it's illegal to make or buy a 'dagger' which is any knife with more than one sharpened edge.
what's more, customs has a reputation for intercepting things that aren't even illegal; they'll often call folding knives or flippers 'automatic' and seize them if they're too easy to open. importers will often have to go to the police, show them the models they're trying to import, get a signed receipt saying it's OK, then send customs a copy of it when the consignment inevitably gets seized.
