I used to appreciate moderators who would help prevent discussion derailment, move off-topic posts and punish repeat offenders. But Lanny can't be here 24/7 to play janitor. People will post off topic bullshit in almost every thread, and usually nothing will be done about it. But maybe it's better that way. Don't feed the trolls and the shit will sink and the cream will rise to the top. The truth, the posts, that really matter will shine through the bullshit and if your topic doesn't maybe that's because it's just more bullshit.
Anyway… I don't think Lanny actually had to do anything. He did, and this is his website, so we have to deal with that. But he didn't have to do anything at all.
And implementing the ability to ignore or block specific users might have been a better choice.

A lot of people don't realize that having an INTERNET FORUM is a privilege, not a right.
Free speech applies to EVERYONE, but posting on an Internet forum means you are not only speaking on behalf of yourself, but also on behalf of whomever is providing you with the pulpit to speak from.
Thus, the one providing the pulpit has to make discretionary decisions.

I have a project in the works right now that is basically a set of AI "chatbots" (the term can apply to Internet forums as well) that are trained using actual posts from frequent posters... And finny is among them.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I don't much like Finny posts for the most part... ESPECIALLY as of late. But he was at least somewhat unique and entertaining at one time.
The sad fact, though, is that because all of his posts now are IDENTICAL, if I feed them into the mix, it will basically just result in a bot that says the exact same thing over and over again, and, I really can't see how that could be anything but incredibly boring.The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire! -

One poster in over 2 decades. I always thought blocking other users was for pussies, but there comes a point where it's just plain practical.
So, without further ado, I introduce you all to the first iteration of my script:

Now, there might very well be others out there, even specifically for NiS... No idea. But what this one currently does, is it basically just blocks posts from every user that has registered as of ~yesterday.
I'll probably tweak it to be more versatile over time, but for now, it's sufficient.
I would also add a search for "infinityshock", but, I imagine that would be pretty quickly overcome.
Also, this is clearly meant to be a temporary plugin, because it essentially "closes registration", in effect.
But it might be helpful for some of you right now.
If you don't use Firefox, I'm pretty sure there's an equivalent addon for Chrome and other browsers. -
