Police uncover ‘possible plot’ by militia to breach Capitol
By MICHAEL BALSAMO, Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) — Capitol Police say they have intelligence showing a “possible plot” by a militia group to breach the U.S. Capitol on Thursday, nearly two months after a mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the iconic building to try to stop Congress from certifying now-President Joe Biden's victory.
The threat appears to be connected to a far-right conspiracy theory, mainly promoted by supporters of QAnon, that Trump will rise again to power on March 4. That was the original presidential inauguration day until 1933, when it was moved to Jan. 20.
The revelation was detailed in a statement from the Capitol Police. It comes at the same time the acting police chief is testifying before a House subcommittee.
“The United States Capitol Police Department is aware of and prepared for any potential threats towards members of Congress or towards the Capitol complex,” the agency said in a statement. “We have obtained intelligence that shows a possible plot to breach the Capitol by an identified militia group on Thursday, March 4.”
The statement differs from an advisory that was sent to members of Congress by the acting House sergeant-at-arms this week, saying that Capitol Police had “no indication that groups will travel to Washington D.C. to protest or commit acts of violence.”
Police did not identify the militia group in the statement on Wednesday. In her testimony to the House panel, acting Capitol Police chief Yogananda Pittman said her investigators had collected “some concerning intelligence,” but declined to provide any details publicly, saying it was “law enforcement sensitive” and that she would provide a private briefing for the subcommittee members.
Capitol Police say that they have stepped up security around the Capitol complex since January's insurrection, adding physical security measures such as the fencing topped with razor wire around the Capitol and members of the National Guard who remain at the complex. The statement said the agency was “taking the intelligence seriously” but provided no other specific details on the threat.
The announcement comes as the Capitol police and other law enforcement agencies are taking heat from Congress in contentious hearings this week on their handling of the Jan. 6 riot. They were prepared for a protest and were badly underprepared for the riot. It took hours for reinforcements to come and by then Trump supporters had roamed the halls of the U.S. Capitol for hours. March 4 is considered by some to be the “real inauguration day,” though there has not been nearly the amount of online chatter that occurred before Jan. 6 from extremist group.
So far, about 300 people have been charged with federal crimes for their roles in the riot. Five people, including a Capitol Police officer, died.
Thousands of accounts that promoted the Jan. 6 event that led to a violent storming of the U.S. Capitol have since been suspended by major tech companies like Facebook and Twitter, making it far more difficult for QAnon and far-right groups to organize a repeat of the mass gathering on Thursday.
Twitter banned more than 70,000 accounts after the riots, while Facebook and Instagram removed posts mentioning “stop the steal,” a pro-Trump rallying cry used to mobilize his supporters in January. And the conservative social media platform Parler, which many of Trump’s supporters joined to promote false election fraud conspiracy theories and encourage friends to “storm” the Capitol on Jan. 6, was booted off the internet following the siege.
Since his defeat, Trump has been promoting lies that the election was stolen from him through mass voter fraud, even though such claims have been rejected by judges, Republican state officials and Trump’s own administration. He was impeached by the House after the Jan. 6 riot on a charge of incitement of insurrection but was acquitted by the Senate.

Capitol Police beef up security over "concerning" conspiracy theory
Sophie Lewis
The U.S. Capitol Police is bolstering security at the Capitol building this week amid "concerning" intelligence related to a far-right conspiracy theory that former President Donald Trump will retake power on March 4. That date marked Inauguration Day for presidents prior to 1933.
In a security bulletin obtained by CBS News, House Sergeant at Arms Timothy Blodgett issued security guidance stating that his office is working closely with Capitol Police (USCP) to monitor potential protests and demonstrations related to what some have called the "true Inauguration Day" — however, the threat appears to have declined since the insurrection on January 6.
"The significance of this date has reportedly declined amongst various groups in recent days," Blodgett said in a statement Tuesday. "At this time, the USCP has no indication that groups will travel to Washington, D.C. to protest or commit acts of violence."
As a precaution, and to ensure the safety and security of members of Congress and their staff, there will be a heightened police presence throughout the Capitol Grounds.
"The Department is aware of concerning information and intelligence pertaining to March 4th and continues to work with all of our law enforcement partners," USCP said in a statement Tuesday night. "Based on the intelligence that we have, the Department has taken immediate steps to enhance our security posture and staffing for a number of days, to include March 4th."
"Additionally, the National Guard continues to maintain a presence on Capitol grounds to support the USCP with maintaining an increased security posture," Blodgett added. "We encourage all Members and staff to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activity to their local law enforcement authorities."
Since the January 6 attack, during which rioters attacked police and threatened members of Congress and former Vice President Mike Pence, federal prosecutors have charged more than 300 people and arrested more than 280. A Justice Department official said this week that the department had opened files on approximately 540 subjects.
Several prominent followers of QAnon, a debunked and harmful online conspiracy theory, have been arrested in connection to the riot, which left five dead, potentially thwarting any future efforts to restore Mr. Trump's power.
FBI Director Christopher Wray told lawmakers on Tuesday that the attack on the Capitol on January 6 was "domestic terrorism" — a threat which he said was "metastasizing" across the country.
Wray said that threats of "racially motivated violent extremism" have skyrocketed in recent years, and have been responsible for the "most lethal" attacks over the past decade. He said the bureau is pursuing approximately 2,000 active extremism cases, and that the number of arrests of white supremacists has nearly tripled in recent years.

I'm happy that MY PRESIDENT believes that saving lives is more important than spending his time bitching about an election that was lost and stirring up an insurrection because of it.

Trump tax returns are now in the hands of the Manhattan district attorney
Tucker Higgins
Former President Trump's tax records have been turned over to Manhattan District Cyrus Vance following the Supreme Court's rejection of the ex-president's last-ditch effort to keep the documents shielded.
After the court allowed the transfer the Manhattan DA, Trump accused the prosecutor of pursuing a "fishing expedition."
Former President Donald Trump's tax records have been turned over to Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. following the Supreme Court's rejection of the ex-president's last-ditch effort to keep the documents shielded.
A spokesperson for Vance, Danny Frost, confirmed that a subpoena was enforced on Monday against Trump's longtime accounting firm, Mazars USA, hours after the nation's highest court rejected Trump's appeal.
The subpoena demanded Trump's personal and corporate records dating to 2011, including his tax returns. Trump bucked modern precedent by refusing to release his tax returns to the public even as he mounted two campaigns for the presidency.
A spokesperson for the former president did not immediately provide comment Thursday. After the court allowed the transfer, Trump pledged to "fight on" and said Vance was pursuing a "fishing expedition."
The long-running investigation has been closely guarded. Early reports suggested that the DA was looking into hush money payments made on Trump's behalf to women who alleged affairs with the real estate magnate. Trump denied the affairs.
More recent court filings have indicated that Vance may be investigating Trump and his namesake company, The Trump Organization, for possible bank and insurance fraud. Trump has repeatedly rejected allegations of financial impropriety and has accused investigators of having partisan motives.
The fight over Trump's tax documents twice made it to the Supreme Court. Both times, the panel refused to stop lower court rulings siding with Vance. In July, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote an opinion for a 7-2 court rejecting Trump's sweeping argument that he was immune to state-level criminal investigations while in office.
"In our judicial system, 'the public has a right to every man's evidence.' Since the earliest days of the Republic, 'every man' has included the President of the United States," said Roberts, who was appointed to the court by then-President George W. Bush.
After that ruling, Trump's attorneys continued to fight the subpoena on the grounds that it was overly broad and issued in bad faith, but lower courts rejected those claims. In October, Trump's attorneys once again asked the Supreme Court to step in, but the court wrote in a one-line order on Monday that it would not do so.
Vance's possession of Trump's tax records does not guarantee that the public will ever learn what they contain. The records were obtained in connection with a grand jury investigation, and New York state law requires that grand jury proceedings are confidential. It is likely that the only way the public will see the records is if Vance ultimately brings charges and includes portions of the records in charging documents.

You still can't argue the article, can you? You reference the first paragraph as a deliberate misrepresentation. The first paragraph clearly lays out what the following article is about.
You insert nonsense about "the US President has executive orders, the sole power to start wars, and even the nuclear monopoly." which has nothing to do with the article about Trump altering the Constitution.
You then proceed with a personal attack on me. Yeah, that's gonna work, right?
You then bring up jedis just because...Hell, I don't know.
Once again..."The hell with your blanket condemnations. What are your specific objections to the below article? Go ahead, I dare you."

Why some Texas residents are ending up with $5,000 electric bills after the winter storms
insider@insider.com (Victoria Cavaliere )
Some Texans were billed $1,000 per day for electricity during last week's frigid weather, The Dallas Morning News reported.
The wholesale price of electricity surged 10,000% as demand increased and supply fell offline.
Some state residents have their home and office bills tied to wholesale electricity prices.
Texas residents who endured days without power during last week's winter storms are facing a new obstacle: Electricity bills over $5,000 for just a few days of energy.
Some customers of state-owned electric grid are seeing the eye-popping, five-figure power bills because their plans are tied to the wholesale market rate. In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, residents have been hit with $1,000 per day charges for electricity, The Dallas Morning News reported. Residents have taken to social media to show $5,000 bills - or more - over a period of about five days.
CPS Energy, the electric utility in San Antonio, said some consumers can expect "exorbitant" bills in the coming weeks, KSAT reported. The utility might try to minimize the hit by spreading the charges over a period of up to 10 years, the news station said.

I had my son call me and wake me early Sunday morning without heat. I found his integrated fan control (circuit board) bad and not timing on the blower motor. Was able to get him heat by turning the blower on continuously at the thermostat (but at a higher speed) until the new board we ordered arrives.
My car was reading 3 degrees outside while driving to his house.
Now I know my 2 year old granddaughter will stay warm.
I also found out she will be having a sibling this fall!
That will make me a four time Grandpa!
