But we all come from a much stricter heritage, in a BBS sense. On Totse in the '90's, if you shitposted even once you got a warning, second time you get perma-banned. The BBS was moderated by a BBS nazi by the name of acidmelt for years. All one-liners and content-less and pic-posts had to be posted in the trash can (Half Baked) or you were targeted for ban. And people loved it that way for a very long time, because it encouraged meaningful discussion: knowledge is power - which was the community's core objective and mission statement. It was a no-nonsense platform, but you could still make shit posts in the trash can. Only in Totse's final death throes did the policies become lax, the discussion died, and the kidiots finally got the keys to the asylum. So, in that light, this stuff from Lanny is kind of mild compared to Totse's early and most prosperous and most interesting era. The problem is that Lanny wants that world of interesting and arcane discussion, but he also wants to entertain the Half Baked scene which plagued Totse in its final days. the meat thread was just the last place IS was shitposting, have a look at his history for the last week or so and work out a ratio for sensible posts vs nonsense rape threats - I figure it's somewhere around 1:20. the posts themselves don't bother me but the sheer volume recently is ridiculous.
