You can probably still get gps shit that doesn’t have a SIM card, you just need the appropriate radio to receive GPS signal. AFAIK there’s no transmission involved in determining a position using GPS, no record of it other than one that a GPS device itself makes (ie in phones the positioning result is reported to the OS and forwarded to interested user land software)The following users say it would be alright if the author of this post didn't die in a fire!

I remember the pixels were so large you could count them with the naked eye. I bought the 16k memory expansion deal. Oh man loading from cassette. The next year I got a TRS 80 COCO II and thought I was hot shit with ROM packs and a dual 5½" FDD and a 900 BAUD accoustic modem.
That was 1983, the 1st year compuserve opened for the consumer market. Text based "internet". I believe it was more like a WAN with access to things like a "CB" channel, which was like IRC but a different protocol. They had some ASCII games and some sort of general reference "library". I'm sure there was more but at that time I was more into learning BASIC and Pascal so, while I'm sure they had more I don't recall what?
