I figure the only real reason it's not used anymore is because decapitating someone is seen as grotesque overkill, but it seems to be a lot less painful and faster than 'modern' methods like lethal injection or gas
It can be horrendously painful if they don't clean the blade after each use and it fails to fully sever on the first drop. -

Do you already own a house/property? If not, that should be your next investment. Don't pay rent to a third party when that money could be going toward a mortgage.
An acre out in the country won't do you any good if it just sits there. Find something you can live in until you're ready to retire rural. Bonus points if you can find a duplex and rent out one half while living in the other. -
