You could probably make that $1500 last much longer if you stayed a cheap hostel or something, or just slept on the street. I don't know many motels that offer cheap monthly rates anymore but I have stayed at one before for a few hundred $$/month, it was pretty chill and across the street from an A&W and a fish and chips so I ate well.

some places just don't give a fuck though. I knew a dude on probation that pissed dirty and had to go to weekend jail but still got hired at a place in the states. I have no idea how it works in his state. I know a lot of places are real tight asses and check all the paperwork but i have a feeling like that's not the norm and it's just customary to piss test everyone and they don't even really care what you have in your system as long as you wear a nice dress shirt and tie to the interview.
It's a bit touchy with machinery though. But in my country it's not like you cant be fired if you come up dirty for coke in a piss test like for forklift driving unless they suspect you are high at work and can test and prove you are high at that moment. I am usually pretty fucked up at work or get high in the morning before going to work but that's a lot different than doing lines in the bathroom i think. It's a lot worse to operate machinery hung over and that's a much longer window and included sleeping. Like can you be fired for drinking too much the night before work? Even though it's legal? thats a lot worse than smoking some weed when you get home.

If you're gonna take a drug test, get a gram of meth and go fucking hard.
