One of my old friends from high school is a hardcore lefty. He came and visited me once when I was a depressed socialist student loser.
He shop-lifted some stuff, then did some dumpster diving and made felafel. He wore ripped clothes and skateboarded everywhere. He was a student in Australia, living in hostels. I was re-watching that 70s show because I was depressed out of my mind, and he ruined it for me by telling me how sexist it was (I cared at that point).
His father was a doctor. His mother was also a doctor. They lived in the fanciest house I've been in to this day and had cleaners. He basically LARPed as what I was - a poor working class person - with his parents money as a backup, and became a hard core anarcho-communist.
I'm pretty sure I earn more than him now. Sad.
EDIT: Oh and I forgot to add. He was in an open relationship with a girl, then found out "it wasn't for him". Probably because she got extra dick and he didn't get extra pussy. What a patriarch, deep down.

Originally posted by Bugz I forgot about that part. that's where they started jotting down his name? then when he was approached in public by the secret service.. shit I forgot what happened. was he question or just noticed he was being watched and walked off.
He was thinking of assassinating the presidential hopeful (or gov) so maybe he was just on any random martrism. not something that seems truly passionate and without violence. though I understood the violence for the young lady since it seemed NYC cops were desensitized to this and spread to thinly. That is what contacting a special task force would of been useful. but Travis was on a mission? He wanted to clean up the streets. Not sure how the politician came into it though. Also taking a lovely lady to a porn film was "Progressive"?
As much as I love Scorsese, I think he made this in the 70s when He was coked out. some of it still doesn't make sense to me today. but then again, I still have a hard time wondering if Patrick from American Psycho experienced any of his experiences. its left up to the audience.
No, it's when he gets hired to work the night shift driving a cab, at the beginning of the movie. -

You realise stuff is bad for you so you quit. You reading sassy communist propaganda from twitter then screenshooting it and posting it here as if you were making some incredible incredible point.
It's brain rot. Dopamine inducing addiction you get nothing out of.
I'm not able to quit my family. Don't think I have that in me. They're not perfect and neither am I. That's ok. I did stop talking to my dad for a few years and I'll probably regret that loss of time for the rest of my life. He's dying now and I try to spend as much time as possible with him while there is still time left. These days I try to be the best brother and son and husband I can be, I try to support my family even though they may not always deserve it and I am glad I have them to depend on as well. Love is really the only thing that matters.
You seem like you would sell your family members to the devil if it would help prop up your ego for a few more decades before you die like everyone else. -

2020-09-11 at 10:58 PM UTC in Scientists Predict There's 90% Chance Civilization Will Collapse Within 'Decades'Most local American governments are in a sorry state, not just financially, but in terms of workforce and future outlook. The American ideal of getting things for as cheap as possible is alive and well. Well, you get what you pay for. As a result of this mentality, many utilities are running on skeleton crews with underpaid staff, even though they can be killed and sometimes are killed working with dangerous machinery.
Most local governments are incredibly dependent on property or sales tax. Especially since so many have pivoted towards tourism in the last few decades. So when the economy is up, revenue is good but the workload is crazy. When things go down, the workload goes down but we have no money and can't hire anyone. There is no way to ever really get ahead.
People take for granted the things that utility and local gov. workers do every day to make basic daily life possible. Repairing water line breaks and downed power lines. Cleaning out sewer lines. Patching streets. Parcel transactions so people can buy and sell property. These things take competent staff who have knowledge and the resources to do the job.
The American Society of Civil Engineer's latest "Report Card" gives America's infrastructure a grade of D+ . Billions of gallons of drinking water are lost every year due to aging water pipes, and a large percentage of the work force is getting close to retirement. Its hard to bring young people into an industry that is dangerous, requires being on-call, and often pays crappy wages. A third of the nation's bridges need to be repaired or totally replaced. You get the idea.
Unfortunately I don't see any of this getting much better. Asking people to pass, for example, a 5 cent gas-tax increase to help repair roads causes an uproar. Americans just don't have the right mentality to have broadly functional local government. At least in Europe people seem to understand the value of having government institutions that can actually work. As west society moves further into collapse, more strain will be placed onto these entities, and they may suffer a kind of internal collapse of their own. Americans have created a way of life where they de-facto subsidize the extravagant, fantasy lifestyles of the super-rich while the necessities of modern life are crumbling.
I foresee a future of more potholes, more water main breaks, intermittent power, broken bridges, and an angry citizenry who doesn't understand why these necessities are not there. Flying the flag and talking about how great their country is won't fix these problems. -

2020-09-10 at 1:31 PM UTC in Trump admits he knew coronavirus was ‘deadly’ and worse than the flu while intentionally misleading AmericansThe democrat/republican divide is artificially manufactured to make sure the public does not unite to overthrow the wealthy. Based on growing wealth disparity, it's clear that the real enemy of the public is the wealthy. However, we have wealthy people on both sides of the political spectrum fanning the flame to make sure the public stays divided, weakening the strength of the masses.

2020-09-10 at 10:55 PM UTC in Scientists Predict There's 90% Chance Civilization Will Collapse Within 'Decades'The motels outside Disney World are fast becoming places where it is possible to glimpse what a complete social and economic collapse might look like in America:

Very well written piece that shines a light on the unfairness of a cruel society, and damn, that was grim to read.
With everything else going on at the moment and with ever increasing inequality and the early stages of the Greater Depression just starting, this sort of story way well soon end up being reality for millions who are currently only just about managing.
Really brings home the reality of what an extended, decades long, collapse could look like on a massive scale, even in developed countries. -
