The survey supports other scientific studies showing major and ongoing declines in flying insects in western Europe this century that potentially imperil food chains, plant and crop pollination and ultimately life on Earth.
Andrew Whitehouse of Buglife said: “For the second year running, Bugs Matter has shown potentially catastrophic declines in the abundance of flying insects. Urgent action is required to address the loss of the diversity and abundance of insect life." -

Dead and dying seabirds collected on the coasts of the northern Bering and southern Chukchi seas over the past six years reveal how the Arctic's fast-changing climate is threatening the ecosystems and people who live there, according to a report released Tuesday by U.S. scientists.
Local communities have reported numerous emaciated bodies of seabirds — including shearwaters, auklets and murres — that usually eat plankton, krill or fish, but appear to have had difficulty finding sufficient food. The hundreds of distressed and dead birds are only a fraction of ones that starved, scientists say.
"Since 2017, we've had multi-species seabird die-offs in the Bering Strait region," said Gay Sheffield, a biologist at University of Alaska Fairbanks, based in Nome, Alaska, and a co-author of the report. "The one commonality is emaciation, or starvation." -

2022-12-13 at 8:59 PM UTC in World to hit temperature tipping point 10 years faster than forecastThe world's permafrost is rapidly thawing and that's a big climate change problem
The amount of emissions from permafrost is directly reliant on how much warmer our atmosphere gets – the higher the degree of warming, the more emissions we can expect.
"It's like adding another country," says David Olefeldt, an associate professor at the University of Alberta and co-author of the study. -

nowadays they're built by huge teams in order to create a generic 'virtual experience' with a sci-fi/western/whatever theme
that's not to say they're necessarily bad, but it's the difference between an artisinal and generic mass-manufactured product
even 'indie' games tend to suffer from the same sort of normalisation; they need to check certain boxes to get any sort of recognition or coverage
I understand what you're saying, it sucks when the money-men take an artist's work of art and strip the soul out of it and turn it into a product.
But on the other hand, I still really enjoy those products most of the time. -

The original one was..as it was…original and the Crytek engine at the time was cutting edge.
Most "modern" games are crappy rehashes.
IME, they have improved the game with each version and offered a variety of different settings and stories while maintaining the same basic elements.

The loss in agriculture has prompted a rise in retail prices across the U.S., helping to drive inflation costs to the highest levels in 40 years. “There’s just not enough water to grow everything that we normally grow,” Don Cameron, president of the State Board of Food and Agriculture, told the Times of San Diego.

Haven't played 6 so I can't compare. But I've really enjoyed 3, primal, and 5. The basic concept is the same in each game but they all have their own stories too. -

Originally posted by aldra I liked FC3, played a lot of multiplayer with friends, the guy with the autocannon, ned kelly armor and tactical flip flops was great
couldn't really get into the later games
3 was how I got into the series, but Primal is one of my all time favorites, really like the setting in that one. They even created an entire cave-man language for it, with three different regional dialects.
5 has been good, neat idea having it set in Montana fighting militant cultists. I enjoy the concept of these games, they are all basically the same shit. Enemies take over an area, you as the main character lead a resistance to fight back. I really enjoy trying to take over enemy outposts as stealthily as possible. -

We get along fine, although she has mental health issues that are compounded by a dependency on alcohol. She is seeing a therapist now and will this week be starting a medication to help her get off alcohol.
