Sorry, marksmen in Afghanistan use Mk 14 EBR rifles. Why? Because the AR15s are designed to be more of a replacement for a submachinegun than anything. The M14 was originally intended to replace the SMG, the carbine, the BAR, and the Garand. It failed to replace the SMG or the carbine, so they introduced the M16. The M16 failed to replace the BAR or the Garand, so they re-introduced the M14 as the Mk 14 EBR in 2002. Now they only have two weapons to fulfill all the roles that they needed four weapons to fill in WWII.

BTW AR15's are meant to be hunting rifles.

I just laid out how it was inspired by two different weapons. Paul Mauser owned the patent on stripper clips and the type of extractor used on his bolts. Springfield infringed on those patents when they released the 03 Rifle. The Springfield isn’t a copy of the Mauser 98. The Springfield’s two piece firing pin is not Mauser like at all. It is a bolt action rifle that has a lot of similarities, but every bolt action rifle has similarities to the Mauser 98. Just like every semi automatic pistol has similarities to the Colt Model 1909 Automatic developed by John Browning for Colt. -
