The problem is that you have to either increase the overall sensor area by a considerable amount (greater cost, harder engineering with OIS platform and optics, more resources needed to resolve the image) or lose imaging area and quality to "asquarify it" and end up with a lower resolution/smaller pixel size which ever way you crop it.
Currently most sensors are either 16:9 or 4:3 format. I'll use a 4:3 sensor to illustrate the point. This is how most camera sensors are shaped:
Now to make it square, you have two options. Option 1 is to make it bigger vertically:
Option 2 is to "crop it down"
And finally, what everyone wants are rectangular photos, not square photos. The camera has to not only take videos but photos as well, in fact photos are the primary use. I pretty much treat my pomeranian like a child. She is pretty much my baby substitute, and I know that.
You can't really train a pomeranian - they are smart and understand what you mean, but they aren't like German Shepherds or Collies. They don't necessarily want to do what you tell them to. They aren't desperate for your approval.
I was upstairs and my dog decided to climb the stairs the other day. Yes I sound like a fag in this video. She can climb the stairs, but she can't get down, so she was stuck.
I had to lift her down, then I fed her some chicken. She only eats meat and cat-food pouches. -

I don't see what this has anything to do with the fact that Americans would rather focus on what is pragmatically a complete non-issue, rather than the absolutely gigantic issues surrounding mental health in the United States.
