depth meters are just there for refference.
everything's computerised, it sounds like the depth meter failed during descent so the submarine kept descending to a dangerous depth, at some point engineers realised and manually halted it. -

sounds like the contractor accidentally cracked boltheads, then didn't want to pay to replace the bolts so they just glued the heads back on
wouldn't be an immediate problem but imagine having to deal with coolant leaks or even a rupture out at sea
https://www.rt.com/news/587640-uk-nuclear-submarine-vanguard/According to a source who talked to The Sun, the depth indicator aboard the Royal Navy vessel had broken down. This led the commanders to believe that the submarine had stopped its descent, while it actually kept going deeper.
The vessel with 140 crew members aboard reportedly came close to reaching the “danger zone,” where it would have been crushed by the water pressure if not for the engineers who spotted the problem via a second gauge in the back of the sub, the report said.
depth guage failed this time, apparently the only redundancy was a second one on the other end of the submarine -

Originally posted by aldra the media is muddying the details of whether or not the ship was actually israeli, but it appears it's owned by a British company which is, in turn, owned by an israeli named Abraham Ungar.
Ungar has a lot of political clout inside israel and has been involved in several bribery and corruption scandals, so it stands to reason the Houthis weren't just snatching up israeli ships, they targeted that one in particular (it wasn't flying an israeli flag, so they would've had to have known who owned it or just got lucky).
given the way they've been behaving, they're probably dumping millions of dollars worth of luxury cars into the ocean right now.
I dug into this a bit more and the ship is actually owned by the israeli UNGAR company. it owns several car carriers (worth $50 million each) which it leases out to other companies. the confusion in ownership seems to be that some maritime tracking sites have the GALAXY LEADER leased to RAY CAR CARRIERS out of the UK, but that company was dissolved in 2018 so any information listing them as an operator is likely out of date. some registration information seems to indicate that RAY was just a shell company for UNGAR anyway, but that's not totally clear.
short version: the GALAXY LEADER is an israeli owned and most likely operated ship flying a Bahamas flag. -
2023-11-20 at 6:09 AM UTC in 5000 rockets hit Israelalso, Hezbullah seems to be doing more and more cross-border raids now that the north of israel has been mostly evacuated. there's a battle going on in Shtula, where they're apparently using small arms and ATGMs to try and destroy infrastructure.

2023-11-20 at 5:51 AM UTC in 5000 rockets hit Israelhttps://english.almayadeen.net/news/sports/us-military-injuries-doubled-in-recent-resistance-attacks--n
US DoD officials told NBC News on Monday that the number of injuries to US military service members in recent operations led by the resistance in Iraq on US occupation bases in Iraq and Syria is now reported to be at least 45, which is twice the figure previously disclosed by the Pentagon.
The report indicates that around two dozen service members have sustained traumatic brain injuries (TBI) resulting from the resistance's operations.
The Pentagon had initially reported that only 21 service members sustained minor injuries during the attacks on US troops at al-Tanf in Syria and the al-Asad air base in Iraq in late October. However, US officials have now noted a rise in reports of potential TBI's stemming from those incidents, according to the report.
this was two weeks ago, the 'official' number of injuries is now over 60.
I'm curious how the US military defines a 'traumatic brain injury' though; actual brain damage? permanent or temporary issues like disorientation or hearing loss? they talk about TBIs separately from 'minor injuries' so I'd assume they're relatively severe, but the only times I've seen the term used in the news have been when the bases in the middle east get hit with missiles and artillery. -

2023-11-20 at 5:29 AM UTC in 5000 rockets hit Israellol, after they cleared the Al Shifa hospital they posted videos of them 'finding' guns hidden behind MRI machines and stuff
they invited the BBC and CNN to come see, who found the rooms in the exact same state as the initial IDF videos but now there were more guns in the same places. 'we found more lol'
IDF is now laying siege to a different hospital, the 'Indonesian' hospital -

for something like that you'd probably be better off just setting up a ramdisk
I figured this might be useful for applications that need to constantly load large amounts of data, like a database cache or some kind of bruteforce cracker -
