me too, cross-platform compatibility isn't great if you need to load containers in Windows though.

only thing I have an issue with is responsiveness; way too much js
aside from that core functionality is fine, everything else is really just a gimmick

didn't read whole thread yet but on the topic of truecrypt and veracrypt-
veracrypt is built on truecrypt's core source, so any inherent issues with truecrypt are also likely to be present in veracrypt.
there have never been any actual faults or backdoors found in truecrypt, it's all just speculation from people who aren't qualified to do so. a 30k code audit was performed and it found nothing suspicious, just messy and inefficient code likely written by a single person.
the reason it was abandoned was most likely due to the author not wanting to deal with the stress of people trying to track them down and the constant swipes at their/truecrypt's integrity - there's no reason to believe anything untoward was going on.

Another IP Address Question.

inetnum: 85.12.68.0 - 85.12.68.127
netname: BEDFORD
descr: Bedfordshire School NATs
if you're running lunix just whois the IP from the terminal
if you're not, check the IANA ipv4 address list to see which AS/netregistry the /8 range is assigned to, then goto that registry's homepage and run a whois from there. THE ARISTOCRATS
how specific the registry data is depends on who actually owns the IP block. for most residential/business IPs, the ISP buys out a huge chunk of IP addresses and assigns them to end users. Checking ownership will only return the ISP that owns the addresses, to get any more specific information (ie. the physical address of the person who was using the IP at any given time) you'd need top query the ISP's records, and those are generally protected and not available without a warrant or subpoena or similar.
in other cases, sometimes schools or business will buy out IP ranges directly - if that's the case, the whois data will return the school or company as the owner.

An Unresponsive Port

yeah, about paping that's right, instead of sending data like an icmp ping, it sends connect requests and logs how long they take and whether they succeed or not. won't tell you anything about the expected protocol.
read my second post; it looks to be a cisco-specific protocol relating to network storage.
for your code, I'm pretty sure that's just a java wrapper for sockets/winsock so it'll be connecting via tcp unless specified otherwise.

An Unresponsive Port

all paping is going to do is test connection establishment, won't tell you anything about the service
the only real way to get anything out of it is to try and guess what protocol it expects and throw data at it until it responds - first thing I'd try is just send some linefeeds via tcp then udp if you get no response, then as sophie suggested, try to guess the service based on the port and send a command in that protocol to see if you get a response. it might be worth using wireshark or tcpdump to inspect the initial connection, as the connect response from the server may give clues as to what the service is.

yeah, they're technically illegal here too but they still show up on eBay and knife stores from time to time. yeah the idea is that the hook will catch on fabric so you can deploy it as you pull it out of your pocket. I believe the function was originally called the Emerson wave, I have a cold steel ti-lite with a similar mechanism.

I've heard good things about them/dunno why you'd want a karambit though, not much utility unless you want it solely for 'defence'
I've got a chinese replica of a benchmade bedlam coming in, it's pretty much a folding mini-scimitar. planning on trying to make my own blade for it.
