A 27-year-old male burned his hands after a prolonged period of drinking alcohol and presented to the emergency department with painful second degree burns. The emergency physician ordered: “titrate hydromorphone.” The patient received a total of four 1 mg doses of Dilaudid IV over a period of one hour. He was discharged 30 minutes later fully awake with normal vital signs. He returned home, took Percocet tablets that had been dispensed before discharge, and went to bed at 4:00 AM. He was found dead in bed at 7:45 AM. The postmortem Dilaudid level was 9.2 ng/ml, and the ethanol level was 0.17 gm/dl. (Hydromorphone concentrations above 75 ng/ml are considered lethal.10) Thus, while Dilaudid levels at autopsy were well below those reported to cause apnea, the combination of alcohol and Dilaudid was the most likely cause of death.

depends on the angle I guess? a lower angle would retain more speed but would limit where on the earth you could hit. I really have no idea; the math required for (accurate) intercontinental artillery would be insane

probably the same reason there are so many reality TV shows

low quality media for low quality consumers

It'd actually be fairly straightforward to build one; there are kits and parts lists available - frame, motors, ESC, wireless transceiver, autopilot/AI module... I was interested in doing it from scratch though, ie. writing my own software/firmware for it which would be risky in terms of the costs associated if I were to screw up.

And that's the problem - components are all fairly modular and replacable, but absolutely not cheap

    Pantsirs and Buks, predictably.

A new development though - Russia apparently gave the SAA access to their radars and tracking data, dramatically reducing their response time and increasing interceptor accuracy. It'll be interesting to compare the hit rate to the last few attacks.

It really depends on the weapon. Some work better as a deterrent, others simply can't be developed or tested secretly.

Oh right, I thought you were talking about current tech. If anything though I'd expect that to be easier to intercept as long as you have forewarning of a launch - it'd be like artillery (China actually claims to be working on EM/railgun artillery at the moment), unable to avoid countermeasures and it's speed limited by gravity (given that it travels in an arc). I guess you could armor it and pack in more 'smart' electronics though since weight won't be such an issue - counter-counter-measures and the like.

The US is beating itself at R&D - greedy contractors are gutting the budget and delivering unfinished or sub-par products to ensure they'll be able to profit off of updates and maintenance. Zumwalt, F-35, endless Tomahawk/Shadow iterations... Russia is at least 2 generations ahead in terms of missile and electronic warfare tech and have strategically neutralised the entire concept of a surface fleet for anything more than threatening poor brown people.

I have no idea about the state of China's tech because most of their visible hardware is based on US/Russian designs and they have a habit of making absurd claims outside of that

I don't think long range will ever be feasible, but as a CIWS, ie. inside of 20km or so, they've shown a lot of promise. True I have no idea if they'll ever be capable defeating ICBMs or hypersonic missiles, but I wouldn't write the concept off so quickly.

about a year ago I was planning on building a hexacopter drone from scratch, but the chances of me fucking up the autopilot or rotation control and ramming it into the ground were too high
