Rome took a century to hit the ground and I don't know if it's even possible to translate that period to modern times with all the advances in transport and communication, so it might be a little while before it gets really bad
apparently some sites use it to block EU visitors because they don't want to comply with the GDPR, but outside of that I dunno. it depends on the site, wouldn't usually have anything to do with your firewall or internal network
I honestly think they're more of a liability nowadays. For the last few decades they've been hyped up as the pinnacle of military superiority and naval power, but against modern missiles they're sitting ducks - what would happen to US military morale if they went into a shooting war with Iran for example, and they used a hypersonic missile they'd quietly bought from Russia, China or even India to kill a carrier in the first half hour? If they went up against Russia or China directly every single carrier in the world would be a target.

while I sort of agree, that line of thinking is why the US has failed so abysmally since they started the 'war against terror' (sic). superior weapons and technology don't win wars, people do - look at the Taliban, Hezbullah or even the DPR/LPR.
that brings up another factor or two - if the US military were ordered to come down on the civilian population, you'd have chaos - mass defections and desertion, no way to tell friend from foe and certain outside interference.
