   basically they sent the guy money via bitcoin, they traced the transaction through the blockchain and he didn't properly mix coins before he cashed out. He probably cashed out to a personal bank account or something which they could flop a subpoenis out onto.

   it's not so much that as Turkey claims the PKK is a terrorist organisation, which you can argue as to whether they're justified or not but they certainly have done a terrorism on many occasions, and the US wanted to use them as a proxy but also wanted to convince Turkey they were some other Kurds.
   
   it's pretty similar to how Al-Nusra and pals changed their names so many times; every time they got caught doing a terrorism they changed names so that they could keep receiving US weapons because now they're completely different moderate rebels!

    yeah I remember a site listing them for ~150-500k, but from what I heard the actual costs would end up being multiple times more due to mandatory maintenance, safety checks etc.
