   most of mine are either S35VN or VG10. M390 is nice, you can put a real fine edge on it and it'll hold it better, but it also takes a fair bit longer to sharpen

    if you want to buy American your best bet is probably Spyderco. Zero Tolerance makes some nice stuff but they're significantly more expensive and built for hard use, they don't have many 'compact' models
